Introduction
Chevron Phillips Chemical is seeking a Process Control Engineer to join the Technical Team for the Golden Triangle Polymers facility located in Orange, TX. This is an exciting opportunity to utilize your experience and be part of a team contributing to the commissioning, startup, and operation of a new sophisticated facility from the ground up.
The Process Control Engineer will support the commissioning and startup of a large-scale ethylene and polyethylene facility to ensure that new automation and control systems are configured, tested, and ready for reliable operation. This position will maintain and troubleshoot DCS/PLC hardware and software, verify field instrumentation compatibility, implement configuration changes, and support loop checks and functional testing. This role will also help maintain system and instrument databases, provide technical expertise to EPCs and automation teams to ensure implementation of control logic aligns with project designs and control narratives. This position will work closely with operations, instrumentation, analyzer, and project teams to help validate design deliverables, resolve control system issues, monitor system health, and support a safe and successful startup.
Responsibilities
  • Designs and implements control strategies to improve safety, reliability, profitability, and environmental impact.
  • Compiles a team of different disciplines to review and advance process control improvement projects.
  • Configures complex regulatory and advanced control strategies in the DCS.
  • Designs and implements new advanced control applications (e.g. Aspentech DMC) and is responsible for maintenance throughout the life of the applications.
    Leads troubleshooting efforts related to process control problems. Offers guidance to other team members related to troubleshooting.
  • Implements process control improvements in the appropriate control system.
  • Creates new Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) unique to the control applications and uses KPI results to design control improvements on existing applications.
  • Analyzes plant data to create models and regressions used in process control strategies.
  • Creates offline optimization tools related to process control strategies.
  • Supports small and medium capital and expense projects with process control impact. Designs control strategies for projects.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering in Engineering with at least 5 years of experience OR Associate degree in Instrumentation or Electronics with at least 7 years of experience
  • Proficient in reading and understanding design documents such as P&IDs, instrument loop drawings, schematics, and Booleans
  • Controller tuning and control system configuration
  • Designing and implementing process control strategies
  • Experience working in the petrochemical industry
  • Experience working on DCS and/or advanced control application platform

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in chemical or electrical engineering
  • Experience with Emerson DeltaV Control System
  • Experience in a manufacturing facility
