Tetra Tech is currently seeking an Associate Project Engineer / Landfill Gas Designer to join our Operations, Maintenance & Monitoring (OM&M) and Engineering Team in the Southern California Area (Diamond Bar, CA). In this role, you will take a prominent role in the planning, design, permitting, and construction of biogas and landfill gas systems, solid waste handling and disposal facilities as well as other environmental projects. You will work under the direction of Client Managers and Project Managers located throughout the company and across the country, and you may oversee and direct the activities of engineers, scientists, technicians, and clerical staff toward successful completion of projects. This position will combine office assignments with occasional site visits and client involvement. The pay scale for this position is $72k to $80k per year, based on qualifications and experience.
Your Role:
  • Assist in coordinating field monitoring and sampling activities for Landfill Gas Collection and Control Systems
  • Help prepare proposals and participate in client and regulatory meetings as needed
  • Assist in various project phases, including investigation, design, and construction/remediation, by preparing drawings, plans, specifications, and reports
  • Provide on-site support during construction to ensure adherence to engineering and regulatory standards
  • Assist in preparing permit documents for new developments, modifications, and closures
  • Draft construction plans, specifications, and cost estimates under the guidance of senior staff
  • Support the development of biogas collection, leachate, stormwater/surface water management, and liner system designs
  • Contribute to technical analyses for biogas-to-renewable energy and solid waste projects across California and the Western US
  • Provide Construction Quality Assurance (CQA) services for Landfill Gas Collection and Control Systems
  • Follow and promote safe work practices
  • Support system analysis efforts to ensure operational objectives and regulatory compliance
  • Read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical reports
  • Write environmental reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals
  • Respond to common inquiries or complaints from clients, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil, Chemical, Mechanical, Geological or Environmental Engineering (Master's Degree is a plus)
  • 0 to 2 years of experience in engineering projects
  • Engineer In Training (EIT) Certification is a plus
  • AutoCAD/Civil 3D or GIS skills is a plus
  • 40 Hour OSHA HAZWOPER certification is a plus
  • Supervisory experience is a plus
  • Experience with biogas and landfill gas systems and solid waste industry is a plus
  • Proven technical skills in design and/or construction
  • Outstanding knowledge of the Microsoft Office software suite, and PDF editors (Bluebeam or Adobe)
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a positive attitude and unwavering personal integrity
  • Solid organizational and time management skills
  • Self-disciplined/motivated individual who also works well in a team environment
  • Valid driver's license
