We offer a hybrid 3-2 work schedule (three days in the office, two days of teleworking) to accommodate the need for flexibility.

Job Summary

This is the foundational step in a progressive series of technical roles within Electric Distribution Design. Through a structured training program and hands-on experience, 25-75 projects will be managed from inception to project release by applying engineering principles and accounting for equipment and labor to estimate project timelines and cost. Projects include, but are not limited to new construction, replacement, and relocation of electric distribution facilities, including fiber. Professionally communicates company policy and procedures, electric service requirements adhering to state, county and/or regulatory codes, project timelines, and status updates to internal and external stakeholders. Represents the Company throughout the design process as the assigned point of contact for the project. Inspects job sites and designates facility placement decisions based on safety, accessibility and operational needsPreparation of underground agreements, billing authorities, revenue calculations, and coordination of right-of-way permits, environmental permits, highway and railroad permits, and easement agreements to ensure projects adhere to local, state and federal guidelines.

Coordinates installation/relocation of other utilities (i.e. cable television, phone, etc.). Assists in storm restoration process by driving, patrolling, scouting damaged locations and digitally obtaining information. Storm restoration can be local, regional or mutual aid. 

For DESC only: Assists in storm restoration by creating switching orders as needed to change field conditions, troubleshooting lines, restoring power, field switching, holding clearance, and getting material list.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

The knowledge, skills, abilities and experience required for entry into this job include the following:

  • 0 - 2+ years related experience.
  • Basic knowledge of electric distribution design, electricity, company policies and procedures, and personal computer skills.
  • Skills: verbal, written and interpersonal communication; ability to learn concepts and technical tools and programs; time management and organization; project management; math and technical aptitude.
  • Abilities: Effectively interact with customers and team members; detail oriented.
  • Physical attributes to perform essential function: prolonged walking with varying terrain, climbing, stooping, bending and prolonged standing and sitting.
Education Requirements

Education Level: Degree or an equivalent combination of education and demonstrated related experience may be accepted in lieu of preferred level of education: 

Associates

Preferred discipline(s): Technical Studies, Project Construction, Business Administration or Electrical Design certificate from a two-year college partnership.

Other disciplines may be substituted for the preferred discipline(s) listed above.

This job requires "recommended" test results from Modern Hire Customer Projects Designer Virtual Job Tryout administered online.  The assessment is untimed, but usually takes about 45 minutes to complete.
