Job description

The Division of Radiation Physics in the Department of Radiation Oncology at Stanford University seeks a motivated medical physicist to join the Division as a Clinical Assistant/Associate Professor in the Clinician Educator line. We are interested in a candidate who is ABR board certified, has a PhD or equivalent, and a record of research in clinical medical physics. The successful candidate will join a dynamic and supportive team, providing comprehensive clinical physics services at Stanford.

To support our expanding clinical footprint, we are seeking a Lead Physicist to oversee physics services at our new regional center in Oakland, working alongside two physicists and two dosimetrists, with plans for team expansion. The Lead Physicist position requires a minimum three years of experience; five years is preferred. Managerial or supervisory experience in a clinical setting is preferred. This new cancer center will offer both external beam and brachytherapy using two Varian TrueBeams, one Varian Edge linacs equipped with surface guidance system and a Varian Bravos system for HDR brachytherapy. The center will have a CT simulator, a PET/CT, a SPECT/CT and an MRI shared with radiology and will have an open linac vault for future development.

The department operates a wide range of state-of-the-art equipment, including two Accuray CyberKnife systems, one RefleXion X1, one ViewRay MRIdian, one Mevion S250 Fit proton therapy platform, and three Varian TrueBeams at Palo Alto campus. Additionally, the department has two PET/CT simulators and a 3T MRI simulator. Treatment planning systems include the Accuray Precision, RaySearch RayStation and Varian Eclipse systems, integrated with the ARIA patient information system. The brachytherapy service (HDR and LDR) is supported by Bravos systems with BrachyVision and VitaSys realtime planning. The department also utilizes a Mobetron IntraOp electron accelerator. Stanford Medicine operates four satellite clinics in the Bay Area, with a total of seven Varian TrueBeams and one Edge.

The major criterion for appointment as Clinician Educators is excellence in the overall mix of clinical care, teaching, administrative and/or scholarship appropriate to the programmatic need the individual is expected to fulfill. The Clinician Educator (CE) line is characterized by the primary focus on clinical care (generally, 90%). CE candidates are to show initiative and commitment in their clinical and teaching roles. Involvement in departmental translational research initiatives is encouraged and supported. A strong sense of initiative and a commitment to excellence in clinical practice, research, and teaching are required. Additionally, excellent verbal and written communication skills and critical thinking are essential. In alignment with the divisionโ€™s clinical coverage requirements, the candidates might be expected to provide coverage across satellite sites and all clinical groups depending on vacation, conferences or paid development leaves.

The activities of the Division/Department are diverse and include basic science and translational research programs in Radiation Biology, Radiation Physics, and Imaging, offering unique opportunities for the successful candidates to integrate into these research programs.
