JOB DESCRIPTION
About The Role


We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Sales Tax Associate to join our accounting team. In this role, you will be responsible for managing state and local sales tax compliance, preparing and filing returns, and supporting clients with a wide range of tax-related projects. This position requires strong technical knowledge, organizational skills, and the ability to collaborate with both internal teams and external clients.


The ideal candidate is a proactive and dependable accounting professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment. You should be comfortable balancing multiple assignments, reviewing the work of junior team members, and providing high-quality client service while ensuring compliance with state and local tax regulations.


Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare and file monthly, quarterly, and annual sales tax returns.
  • Maintain accurate client filing calendars and ensure all deadlines are met.
  • Navigate state tax portals to file returns, submit registrations, and research tax requirements.
  • Assist with sales tax account reconciliations and resolve filing discrepancies.
  • Gather and organize client documentation needed for compliance projects.
  • Communicate professionally with clients regarding missing information, filing deadlines, and account updates.
  • Assist with state registrations, permit applications, and sales tax account maintenance.
  • Support voluntary disclosure agreements (VDAs), nexus reviews, and audit preparation.
  • Maintain organized electronic client files and documentation.
  • Assist with special projects and process improvement initiatives.
  • Stay current on state and local sales tax laws and regulations.

REQUIREMENTS
  • 1-3 years of accounting, bookkeeping, tax, or sales tax experience.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating with a team.
