Job description

As a Shipping and Receiving Associate, your work is an essential part of our production process. The Shipping & Receiving Associate / Forklift Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient movement of materials, inventory, and finished products throughout Susquehanna Glass Company. This position plays an important role in keeping production supplied and ensuring that incoming materials are accurately received, properly stored, and available when needed, while outgoing orders are picked, packed, loaded, and shipped accurately and on time.

The ideal candidate is dependable, organized, safety-conscious, and comfortable working in a fast-paced warehouse and manufacturing environment, and operating a forklift outdoors, on uneven terrain. This position requires regular forklift operation, physical material handling, and close attention to inventory accuracy.


Shipping

  • Assist customers with pickups
  • Verify quantities, product numbers, and shipping information for accuracy.
  • Load trucks and delivery vehicles safely and efficiently using a forklift or other material-handling equipment.
  • Assist with coordinating shipments with carriers and other departments as needed.
  • Maintain an organized and clean shipping area.


Receiving

  • Receive incoming shipments and verify contents against purchase orders, packing slips, and receiving documentation.
  • Inspect incoming materials for visible damage or discrepancies and report issues to the appropriate personnel.
  • Unload trucks safely using a forklift or pallet jack.
  • Properly label, stage, and put away received inventory in designated storage locations.
  • Maintain accurate receiving records and communicate shortages, overages, or damaged goods.


Forklift & Material Handling

  • Safely operate forklifts and other warehouse equipment to move raw materials, finished goods, pallets, boxes, and supplies.
  • Transport materials between warehouse storage, production areas, and shipping/receiving.
  • Keep production and warehouse areas adequately stocked with necessary materials.
  • Retrieve inventory from warehouse storage as requested by production or other departments.
  • Stack and organize materials safely and efficiently while maintaining clear aisles and walkways.
  • Perform routine inspections of forklifts and report maintenance or safety concerns immediately.


Warehouse & General Duties

  • Maintain accurate inventory locations and assist with inventory counts as needed.
  • Help keep warehouse storage areas organized and properly stocked.
  • Break down and shred cardboard and other packing materials & empty baler when necessary
  • Maintain recycling/waste areas.
  • Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and OSHA requirements.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

  • Previous warehouse, shipping/receiving, or material-handling experience preferred.
  • Previous forklift experience required; forklift certification must be obtained through SGC company training.
  • Previous experience operating a (non CDL) box truck preferred
  • Valid PA Drivers License is required
  • Ability to safely operate a forklift in a warehouse and manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to read and understand packing lists, purchase orders, shipping documents, and inventory information.
  • Basic computer skills and ability to learn company inventory/shipping systems.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Good organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to work independently while also working effectively as part of a team.
  • Dependable attendance and punctuality are essential.
  • Manufacturing experience is a plus.


Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the workday.
  • Ability to frequently lift, carry, push, and pull materials and packages.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds independently and heavier materials with assistance.
  • Ability to safely climb, bend, stoop, reach, and maneuver around warehouse and production areas.
  • Ability to work in a warehouse/manufacturing environment where temperatures, noise levels, and physical conditions may vary.
  • Must be able to safely operate or work around forklifts and other industrial equipment.


Additional role details:

  • You may need to stand for up to 8 hours. There are two, paid 15-minute breaks and one unpaid 30 minute lunch break. Work may be repetitive at times. Overtime is available.
  • In general, work hours are from Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM to 4:30PM. Occasional Saturday work may be required.
  • Pay begins at $16 per hour, with opportunities for growth and advancement.
