Job Title: Maintenance Technician (3rd Shift)
Location: Des Plaines, IL
Hire Type: Long-term Contract (employed by Sterling Engineering)
Target Pay Rate: $27.00 - $33.00/hour (plus overtime)
Work Schedule: 3rd Shift (10:45 PM - 7:15 AM)

Job Summary:
Sterling Engineering is seeking a skilled Maintenance Technician for a contract opportunity with a manufacturer of regulated dental products. This role is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing production equipment and facility systems to ensure maximum uptime and safe operation. The ideal candidate will have strong electrical and mechanical troubleshooting experience, the ability to read schematics and blueprints, and experience working with automated manufacturing equipment.

Must Have Skills:
  • 3-5 years of industrial maintenance experience
  • Strong electrical troubleshooting and repair skills
  • Experience with hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical systems
  • Ability to read electrical schematics, ladder diagrams, and blueprints
  • Experience troubleshooting PLC-controlled equipment
  • Preventive maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Ability to safely work from ladders, lifts, and elevated platforms
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
Job Duties:
  • Perform preventive maintenance on manual, semi-automated, and automated production equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and repair electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and facility-related systems.
  • Diagnose equipment issues using PLC display monitors, CNC controls, and other machine interfaces.
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, ladder diagrams, blueprints, and technical manuals.
  • Perform machine adjustments involving sensors, interlocks, control systems, and energy isolation devices.
  • Maintain equipment maintenance records, calibration documentation, and machine history files.
  • Support facility systems including industrial electrical, plumbing, HVAC, lighting, and structural components.
  • Assist Engineering with installation, testing, modification, and validation of new production equipment.
  • Participate in facility improvement and capital project teams.
  • Follow all Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), Arc Flash, and company safety procedures.
  • Identify and source replacement machine components and maintenance supplies.
  • Perform additional maintenance responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Associate degree preferred but not required.
  • 3-5 years of industrial maintenance experience.
  • Strong understanding of industrial electrical systems, including electrical load calculations, fuse protection, and wire sizing.
  • Advanced knowledge of hydraulic, pneumatic, mechanical, and electrical systems.
  • Experience troubleshooting automated manufacturing equipment.
  • Strong troubleshooting, investigative, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to evaluate and maintain safe working conditions.
  • Comfortable working on lifts, ladders, scaffolding, and elevated work areas.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and frequently perform repetitive hand movements.
  • Ability to lift, push, and pull up to 50 pounds.
