Position Overview

The RN Director of Surgical Services provides strategic and operational leadership for hospital-based Surgical Services, with direct oversight of the Operating Room (OR) and Cardiovascular Services. This role partners closely with senior nursing leadership (CNO or Administrative Director) to ensure the delivery of high-quality, safe, and efficient patient care across assigned service lines.

The Director holds 24/7 accountability for clinical operations, staffing, quality outcomes, and regulatory compliance within a multi-unit environment. This position plays a critical role in advancing nursing practice, staff development, and operational excellence in an acute care hospital setting.


Key Responsibilities
  • Provide executive-level leadership for Surgical Services, including OR and Cardiovascular departments

  • Support senior nursing leadership in assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating nursing practice across multiple units

  • Ensure high-quality, safe, and compliant patient care aligned with regulatory and accreditation standards

  • Maintain 24/7 accountability for assigned departments, including operational readiness and clinical escalation

  • Lead staffing, scheduling, and resource management to support efficient patient care delivery

  • Oversee clinical competency, performance management, and professional development of nursing staff

  • Serve as a role model and advocate for professional nursing practice

  • Collaborate with physicians, anesthesia, PACU, and interdisciplinary teams to optimize patient outcomes

  • Drive process improvement, operational efficiency, and change initiatives within Surgical Services

  • Perform additional leadership and administrative duties as required

Compensation 
$ 130,000-$160,000

Required Qualifications

Experience

  • Registered Nurse with progressive clinical experience

  • Minimum 2 years of hospital-based nursing leadership experience at the manager or director level

  • Demonstrated experience within OR and/or Surgical Services environments

Education

  • Associate Degree in Nursing with a Bachelor’s degree in a healthcare-related field, or

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)

Licensure & Certifications

  • Active, unrestricted RN license in the state of practice

  • BLS certification (required upon hire)

  • Ability to obtain required certifications within specified timeframes, including ACLS, CPI, PALS, and NRP, as applicable to departmental oversight


Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Nursing

  • Experience overseeing both Operating Room and Cardiovascular Services

  • Strong background in hospital operations, quality initiatives, and staff development
