Job description

Location: Chinook (4951 - 110 Avenue SE, Calgary, Alberta)

Shift Schedule: Saturday- Wednesday 10:00 AM to 6:30 PM (possibility of schedule to change based on business needs 8am-4:30pm, or 11am-7:30pm shift)  

About the Role

As a Quality Control Associate you will take a hands-on approach to maintaining and continuously improving our product quality control processes and monitoring our food safety requirements. Reporting to the Supervisor, you will play a key role in ensuring our customers are being provided with safe, great tasting meals.

What you will be doing:

  • Receive inbounding and inventory SKUs from the Warehouse department and conduct quality control inspections to ensure products adhere to required specifications.
  • Maintain clear and concise communication with the Operations, Procurement, and Logistics teams; in cases of product non-conformance, alongside maintaining a photo database of product non-conformances.
  • Perform quality control inspections on raw materials, work-in-progress and finished products to ensure products meet Company Standards.
  • Conduct environmental monitoring through swabbing and equipment calibration verification.
  • Monitor GMPs are followed by all employees and Management of allergens is followed as per procedures.
  • Ensure compliance of products with regulatory requirements through monitoring of product labeling, CCPs and PRPs as applicable.
  • Maintain accurate reports and records (e.g. CCP & PCP records, line verification records, GMPs).
  • Input and verify data in QA tracking systems (e.g., Google Sheets, QA App, IMT, WMS, Datalit)
  • Address quality concerns and best before date (BBD ) issues on the production lines as needed.
  • Ensure all Out of Spec findings are managed according to established procedures, including Deviation, Corrective Action & Preventative Measures, Food Safety Assessments and Product Holds.
  • Assist management team in troubleshooting and resolving problems within the Production Process.
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned

At a minimum, you have: 

  • Post-secondary education in Biological, Chemical or Food Sciences diploma
  • 6 Months to 1 year experience working in QC/QA in a food processing, manufacturing or service industry; experience with RTE product is an asset
  • Physically capable and willing to push, pull, and lift up to 50lbs
  • Comfortable with standing for extended  periods of time and performing regular bending, twisting and walking
  • Understanding the Safe Food for Canadians Regulations and GFSI schemes
  • Willing and able to work in a refrigerated environment (0C to 4C) 
  • Strong communication skills in English, both verbal and written
  • Familiar with MS Office, Google Apps and comfortable learning new technologies. 
  • Ability to prioritize, remain calm and alert while multitasking in a fast-paced and deadline oriented environment. 
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment, in addition to having strong interpersonal skills. 
  • Level 1 First Aid is considered an asset.
