Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Research Support Associate for the department of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology at the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.
Under the direction of the Principal Investigator, the Research Support Associate assists in single-molecule biophysical analysis of force-producing enzymes.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Prepares samples and carry out single-molecule biophysical assays on force-producing enzymes.
  • Assists with daily maintenance of various cell cultures.
  • Supports general molecular biology and recombinant protein preparation.
  • Uses and maintains custom-built instrumentation for optical and magnetic tweezers.
  • Uses and improves custom-written LabVIEW and MATLAB scripts for data acquisition and analysis.
  • Maintains clear and comprehensive laboratory records.
  • Performs statistical analyses of research data.
  • Analyzes and processes experimental data for publication and grant application.

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience
  • High School Diploma required.
  • Must be currently enrolled in undergraduate/graduate studies, or satisfactory completion of undergraduate/graduate degree program, in biomedical engineering, biophysics, physics, biochemistry, or a similar field.

  • General wet lab skills are required.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Minimum of one (1) year of lab research experience is highly preferred, but is not required.
  • A basic knowledge of computer programming, particularly with MATLAB and/or LabVIEW is preferred.
