Position Summary The Network Engineer will function as a primary resource for all central networking and telecommunications infrastructure. This position must work with various groups to deploy network technologies as appropriate.
Essential Functions- Manage all logical and physical network infrastructure.
- Design the campus network with fault tolerance and redundancy to maximize reliability and up time.
- Manage maintenance and installation of Ethernet-based TCP/IP networks including installing and configuring switches and routers, subnet management, NAT, VPN, copper and fiber-optic devices.
- Work closely with the Director of IT Security to handle security issues. Manage and configure access-lists and device rules on firewalls, routers, and intrusion detection devices.
- Take a lead role in troubleshooting when network failures occur to quickly restore service.
- Serve on committees for the design and implementation of a remote disaster recovery site, PCI compliance, and others as assigned.
- Manage the training and supervision of student employees and provide direction for general network maintenance.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education & Experience Minimum Qualifications
- 4 Year / Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or similar.
- Previous experience as a Network Manager or higher capacity.
- Thorough understanding of TCP/IP networking and related protocols with demonstrated ability to manage systems.
- Thorough understanding of Cisco routers, switches, controllers, access points and protocols associated with routing environments.
- Demonstrated experience in managing network backbone systems.
- Ability to lift heavy objects up to 50 lbs.
- Thorough knowledge and understanding of access-lists on firewalls and routers.
- Ability to troubleshoot network problems and determine both temporary and long-term solutions.
- Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills combined with the ability to work with limited supervision in a university environment.
