Job Title: Engineering Associate (Transmission)

Job Summary/Purpose
This position works within the Engineering organization with limited management oversight to support the planning, design, and maintenance of electrical substations. Responsibilities include developing and reviewing substation layout and equipment designs, supporting project management activities, and coordinating with construction and operations teams to ensure safe and reliable substation performance. Work may involve equipment specification, coordinating with the protection and controls group, maintenance planning, asset management, system reliability improvements, technical investigations, and participation in emergency restoration activities.
Job Duties/Responsibilities
  • Performs a wide variety of engineering support activities within the Electrical Substation Design group, including substation planning, equipment and layout design, maintenance support, supporting project management activities, construction coordination, and operational activities.
  • Applies engineering and technical principles, industry best practices, and knowledge of internal and external business requirements to develop cost-effective, technically sound substation design solutions and improvements.
  • Collaborates with Engineers and/or managers to review and refine substation design deliverables and technical recommendations.
  • Supports compliance activities related to applicable industry standards and utility regulations (e.g., NERC, SERC) as required.
  • With oversight from Engineers and/or management, evaluates design substation design alternatives; interprets and applies electrical codes, standards, procedures, and design practices; and supports consistent implementation across projects.
  • Assists with storm and emergency restoration efforts as necessary, including substation assessment and technical support.

Minimum Requirements
Minimum education required of the position
Engineering Associate, I, II or Sr: 2 or 4-year Associate/Technical Degree or minimum experience requirements.
Engineering Associate, Lead (Trans): 4 year technology or Bachelor's degree or director's approval.
Minimum experience required of the position
Engineering Associate, I (Trans):5 years operational experience or minimum education requirements.
Engineering Associate, II (Trans): 10 years operational experience or minimum education requirements.
Engineering Associate, Sr (Trans): 5 years of technical/design experience and Associate/Technical Degree, or 15 years operational experience.
Engineering Associate, Lead (Trans): 8 years of technical/design experience and Associate/Technical Degree, or 15 years operational experience.
Minimum knowledge, skills, and abilities required of the position
Demonstrate ability to apply engineering and design principles. Sound understanding of electric power flow theory. Understand construction methods and techniques, project management techniques, and applications of various engineering design. Mastery of relevant processes and policies, and excellent design skills. Consistency demonstrates good judgment. Good interpersonal skills along with strong written and oral communication skills. Good knowledge of Personal Computer operations and related software. Basic theory of electricity. Ability to interpret construction drawings. Ability to manage multiple activities and changing priorities. Ability to work well under pressure. Self-motivated and dependable team player. Good math skills. Required to work safely and follow all Entergy safety policies and procedures. Ability to recognize hazards in the workplace and have the ability to mitigate the hazards. Ability to maintain and care for Company equipment properly and safeguard assets. Demonstrated acceptance of a diverse and inclusive work environment and customer base. Ability to recognize opportunities for process improvement.
