Job description

Internal Medicine Core Faculty Physician (MD/DO)

The Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) and MUSC Health are seeking experienced Internal Medicine physicians for academic opportunities in Florence, SC. Chosen candidates will serve as MUSC Health – Pee Dee Division's GME Core Faculty and will play an integral role in growing and shaping the new Internal Medicine Residency Program at MUSC Health – Florence Medical Center.

Core Faculty will report to the Residency Program Director and directly impact the organization, implementation, and continued improvement of the new training program. As a foundational element of graduate medical education, Core Faculty will foster the growth and development of residents in the practice-based learning environment, ensuring that graduates are prepared to deliver the highest quality of care to patients in the communities they serve.

The new Core Faculty Physician will:

  • Split time between educational, administrative, and clinical care
  • Serve as a role model, mentor, and advisor to residents in the program
  • Participate in the selection, orientation, and evaluation of residents
  • Contribute to the development of program curriculum and evaluation tools
  • Promote internal medicine care and the residency program, preferably practicing the full scope of ambulatory primary care medicine
  • Provide appropriate levels of resident supervision to ensure patient safety
  • Support the Program Director (PD) and Associate Program Director (APD) in the implementation of policies and procedures consistent with institutional and program requirements (e.g. resident clinical and educational work hours and clinical learning environment)
  • Assist with the incorporation and application of ACGME Milestones into evaluation tools
  • Participate in program evaluation and clinical competency committees at the discretion of the PD
  • Prepare and deliver structured educational activities as requested by the APD or PD
  • Participate in resident scholarship with the goal of one scholarly project per year
  • Actively participate in faculty development initiatives

  • Candidates must be board certified in Internal Medicine and licensed to practice Internal Medicine in the state of South Carolina at the time of hire.
