GOLF MERCHANDISER

Department: Golf
Reports To: Head Golf Professional
Employment Status: Full-Time, Hourly
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Compensation: Competitive base compensation plus performance-based incentive opportunity

POSITION SUMMARY

The Golf Merchandiser is responsible for the overall success of the Golf Shop merchandise operation while maintaining exceptional service to Spring Run Golf Club members and guests. This position plans, purchases, coordinates, displays, promotes, and manages golf merchandise offered for sale while maintaining accurate inventory controls and product documentation.

The Golf Merchandiser works to maximize sales and profitability through strategic purchasing, effective merchandising, analysis of sales trends, inventory management, and strong vendor relationships. The individual in this position must demonstrate excellent organization, professionalism, customer service, and a strong understanding of golf merchandising and the game of golf.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Merchandise Planning & Purchasing

? Oversee the Golf Shop merchandising function in support of the overall Golf Operation.
? Develop buying plans and coordinate all golf merchandise purchasing.
? Maintain appropriate merchandise levels based on season, demand, and sales trends.
? Present a diverse and desirable selection of golf apparel, accessories, and related merchandise.
? Purchase merchandise, supplies, fixtures, and staff uniforms as appropriate.
? Develop and maintain open-to-buy plans within established budgetary guidelines.
? Attend approved merchandise buying shows, conferences, and industry events within budget parameters.

Inventory & Financial Management

? Maintain complete product documentation from purchase through sale, including purchase orders, receiving records, invoice validation, inventory records, and special-order documentation.
? Conduct accurate and timely physical inventory counts.
? Monitor inventory and Club assets to minimize loss.
? Establish pricing for inventory and special-order merchandise while considering competitive pricing and appropriate profit margins.
? Analyze merchandise sales and trends and adjust purchasing and merchandising strategies accordingly.
? Develop strategies designed to maximize financial performance, sales, and profitability.

Golf Shop Operations & Member Service

? Assist the Head Golf Professional with Golf Shop operations as needed.
? Maintain an attractive, organized, and professional appearance throughout the Golf Shop.
? Provide exceptional customer service to members and guests.
? Assist members with merchandise selections, purchases, and special orders.
? Answer telephone calls in a courteous and professional manner.
? Maintain and promote a positive and professional image of Spring Run Golf Club.

Vendor Relations

? Develop and maintain productive partnerships with merchandise vendors.
? Negotiate effectively with vendors regarding merchandise, pricing, purchasing, and product availability.
? Stay current with golf apparel, equipment, retail, and merchandising trends.
? Attend conferences, workshops, meetings, trade shows, and educational opportunities to remain current with industry trends.

Team Leadership & Collaboration

? Train, motivate, and develop Golf Shop sales staff to provide effective sales and exceptional member service.
? Serve as a positive role model by demonstrating the professionalism, work ethic, integrity, and service standards expected of Spring Run employees.
? Work collaboratively with the Head Golf Professional and Golf Department team.
? Support additional Golf Shop and Golf Department projects and responsibilities as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education & Experience

? Bachelor?s degree preferred; equivalent combination of education and relevant experience will be considered.
? Previous experience in golf merchandising, retail buying, golf shop operations, or a related field strongly preferred.
? Fundamental knowledge of golf merchandising and the game of golf.
? Experience working within a private club, golf club, hospitality, or member-service environment preferred.
? Experience with merchandise purchasing, inventory management, sales analysis, and vendor relationships preferred.

? Ability to lift up to 20 lbs occasionally.
