This is a full-time, CASA role. The salary grade for this posting is 0645. The salary range is $79,010 to $98,447. Please note that all applicants who are new to CASA will begin on the first salary step. Job Summary:
Administrative mechanical work in the Design and Construction Division for the School District. The employee in this class is responsible for reviewing plans and specifications submitted by contracted architects and engineers for new construction. Work involves reviewing construction documents for the repair and alteration of public school buildings and related facilities. Work additionally involves field contact with technical and administrative personnel to facilitate the execution of school building plans.
Essential Functions:
โ€ข Reviews mechanical design, plans, specifications and other contract documents prepared by consultants, architects and engineers for feasibility and adherence to School District standards; makes periodic inspections of project sites to review work in progress for conformance to plans and specifications.
โ€ข Conducts special studies and makes recommendations for changes in procedures when indicated; makes partial and final engineering estimates of work completed; coordinates the mechanical engineering aspects of projects; resolves design problems and interprets contract documents; reviews and prepares change orders.
โ€ข Reviews inspection reports on projects in progress and upon completion; confers with engineers on changes needed for approval of projects; recommends approval where changes are warranted.
โ€ข Writes technical reports, procedural memos and technical evaluation papers; prepares drawings, sketches and specifications for mechanical projects as needed; reviews and approves invoices; arranges for and assist s in the preparation of cost estimates.
โ€ข Coordinates the review of design concepts by the department, appropriate city agencies and contracted engineers; meets with instructional personnel, administrators and interested citizen's groups to develop and explain design concepts.
โ€ข Prepares applications for code variances and attends hearings; provides technical assistance to the School District's legal counsel; prepares and schedules advertisements for bids.

Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
โ€ข Completion of a bachelor's degree program at an accredited college or university with major course work in mechanical engineering.
โ€ข Two years of full-time, paid, professional mechanical engineering experience in the design of mechanical systems for large construction and renovation projects.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
โ€ข Considerable knowledge of the theory, principles and practices of mechanical engineering as applied to the preparation of plans, specifications, estimates and designs for a variety of engineering projects.
โ€ข Considerable knowledge of modern mechanical engineering methods and materials.
โ€ข Knowledge of modern mechanical engineering techniques as applied to construction and renovation work.
โ€ข Knowledge of the methods and techniques used in the inspection of work under construction for compliance with specifications.
โ€ข Ability to make estimates of mechanical engineering costs involved in construction and alterations.
โ€ข Ability to resolve mechanical engineering design and interpretation problems involving modification and adaptation of standard engineering methods and techniques.
โ€ข Ability to inspect work under construction for compliance with specifications.
โ€ข Ability to prepare technical forms, reports, change notices and other correspondence.
