Job description

Warehouse Associate

Established in 1926, Mutual Trading Co., Inc. was originally a small co-op organization for centralized purchasing of basic import foods to service the needs of the early Japanese immigrant society in Southern California. We've grown nearly 100 years old now, and command a premiere position among Japanese foodservice suppliers, as well as fill a key role as "Culinary Ambassador" promoting Japanese foods worldwide. Currently, we import, manufacture, and distribute over 7,000 Japanese foods, beverages, restaurant equipment and supplies.

Location: El Monte, CA

Hours: S-TH: 5:00PM โ€“ 1:30AM; 1 hr. lunch; OT may apply

Job Responsibilities and Duties
  • Picks and assembles customer orders as indicated on the pick list
  • Coordinates with manager and salespersons to assemble urgent deliveries to customers
  • Maintains high levels of customer satisfaction by providing excellent service
  • Participate in the weekly warehouse meetings
  • Conducts daily stock checks and reports out of stock inventory to management
  • Partakes in warehouse upkeep and ensures the stockroom is clean and organized
  • Transports inventory between warehouses via delivery van
  • Maintains and safely navigates the Company vehicle
  • Secondary functions:
    • Complete deliveries as a backup delivery driver
    • Document, record, and complete driver log when making deliveries
  • Attend semiannual inventory count on designated day, possibly on a weekend
  • Provide logistics support for Company events and functions outside of normal working hours
  • Performs duties as assigned
Physical Requirements
  • Able to reach, bend, kneel, and lift up to 50 pounds frequently
  • Able to handle and move up to 165 pounds assisted frequently
  • Able to drive for a majority of the daily working hours
  • Working Conditions
    • Noise Level: Loud while indoors
Other Requirements
  • Conversational level English required; Business level English preferred
  • Able to operate forklift and warehouse machinery in compliance with safety guidelines
  • Able to work weekends, holidays, afterhours, and 2nd Shift (5:00PM โ€“ 1:30AM) as needed
  • Has and maintains a clean driving record
  • Maintains a positive attitude
  • Works efficiently independently and in a team
  • Adapts to frequent changes in assignments and workload
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Minimum 1 year of general warehousing experience preferred
Knowledge and Skills
  • Demonstrates strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Possesses basic mathematical knowledge such as counting inventory, weight and measurement conversions, combining, etc.
  • Has strong communications and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrates awareness of proper warehouse safety procedures
  • Forklift training and/or certification required
  • Reach Truck certification preferred
  • Knowledge of Japanese foods and liquors preferred
