MT. PLEASANT PUBLIC SCHOOLS

The following position is available for the 2026-2027 school year.ย 

LOCATION:Gratiot-Isabella Technical Education Center Mt. Pleasant Campus

REPORTS TO:ย ย ย ย GI-TEC Director

ย  ย  ย  ย  1.0ย ย ย ย ย Health Science Careers Instructor (51.0000 Career Technical Education)

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Valid Michigan Secondary Teaching certificate with appropriate CTE Teaching Endorsement to teach state approved Health Sciences/Allied Health program OR..
  • Recent and relevant work experience (requires a minimum of 4000 hours) and be willing to obtain annual authorization to teach a state approved Health Sciences/Allied Health program.
  • Preferred, but not required - Registered Nurse (RN), certified instructor for American Heart Association CPR/AED, Blood Bourne Pathogens and First Aid.
  • Relevant industry experience includes, but not limited to:ย  Clinical Health Practices, Supervision, Patient Care, Health Administration, Teaching, First Aid/CPR, RN, LPN, Paramedics, Respiratory Therapists, Phlebotomy, Medical Assistant, etc.ย ย 
  • Knowledge of the Health Science industry (ethics, legal, HIPAA, abuse, etc.)
  • Must be AHA (American Heart Association) Basic Life Support/CPR Certified
  • Has undergone a physical examination, by a licensed physician, that documents capability to perform required duties.
  • Has an electronic fingerprint clearance from a criminal history record check.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:ย 

  • Prepare high school students for diverse, in-demand healthcare pathways by building a strong foundation in medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, patient care, ethics and healthcare systems.
  • Teach comprehensive Health Science fundamentals and advanced care skills in both classroom and clinical lab settings.
  • Demonstrate clinical skills (e.g. taking vital signs, basic patient care procedures, infection control, etc.) and guide students through hands-on practice using medical equipment and simulation mannequins.
  • Provide instruction, feedback and assessments to high school age students that align with state CTE standards, integrating academic, technical and employability skills.
  • Plan a program of study that incorporates project based learning and career readiness.
  • Organize an Advisory Committee that collaborates with local business/industry to ensure curriculum relevance and build community partnerships.ย ย 
  • Provides students with Work Based Learning (WBL) opportunities with local healthcare facilities (e.g. internships, clinical rotations, job shadowing, etc.)
  • Coordinate and actively engage students in leadership involvement with Career and Technical Student Organizations (CTSO) (e.g. HOSA, Health Science Club, etc.)
  • Maintain accurate, complete, correct records, and program documentation as required by law, district policy and CTE compliance.
  • Provide high quality instruction and classroom management that supports and aligns to the district's educational vision and mission
  • Plan a program of study and classroom environment that meets the individual needs, interests and abilities of all high school age students
  • Ensure a safe, clean, and organized lab environment.
  • Assess and modify instructional practice leading toward increased student achievement.
  • Utilize educational technology to support student's instruction and learning.
  • Establish and maintain positive and effective relationships with students, peers, parents and community
  • Follow all MPPS School Board policies, the MI Code of Educational Ethics and GI-TEC guidelines.
