Role description:

Arcadis is seeking a construction Inspector, with 5 or more years of experience, to join our construction management team working on construction projects located within the NYC Metropolitan Area.

This is an exciting opportunity for a self-motivated individual to join our team locally with support from one of the best-qualified municipal consulting firms in the country. As a construction Inspector, you will utilize your experience and technical knowledge of construction management, municipal infrastructure, building construction, MEP systems construction (including boilers, HVAC, piping, electrical, plumbing, etc.), asbestos abatement projects, site development, general civil/structural construction work, construction field inspection, construction site safety, QA/QC, and report documentation to successfully assist the Arcadis Assistant Project Manager/ Resident Engineer with the oversight and management of Arcadis' on-site team for its delivery of construction management services for the construction of a new boiler building at a NYCHA development located in Brooklyn, NY and to assure Contractors' compliance with project requirements, and positively represent ARCADIS. You will work under the supervision of the Assistant Project Manager/ Resident Engineer.

Role accountabilities:

The inspector will provide inspection for overall quality of work, construction site safety, testing procedures, inspection protocols, construction techniques and timely completion of daily inspection activities and will be responsible for inspection of materials used on projects to ensure compliance with approved plans, specifications, submittals, and ordinances, on behalf of Clients and Owners.

Contractor Oversight:

In this position you will work closely with contractors to monitor and track their work, performance, quality, schedule, and safety. You will be expected to ensure the delivery of daily inspector reports in accordance with the clients' requirements and review plans for assigned projects. As a key point of contact, you will exert influence over the contractor to maintain project goals regarding cost, schedule, quality, etc. and assist with the contractor payment process and recommend appropriate adjustments as necessary. Lastly, assisting with oversight and management of the general contractor's efforts related to overall site safety, MPT, permit condition compliance and coordination with other participant agencies will be expected.

Stakeholder Engagement:

On this project there will be multiple stakeholders which will include clients, contractors, sub-consultants and internal ARCADIS Staff. You will provide coordination of information both written and orally, to contractors, client staff, ARCADIS staff, and outside agencies. With many moving parts you will act as a liaison with NYCHA's Property Management, Heating Division and Tenant's Association to coordinate construction activities with NYCHA's existing housing development needs. You will also be expected to assist with liaison with the Program Management and NYCHA Asset and Capital Management staff to communicate and resolve all project issues as required.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • 5 years or more of experience with at least 2 years of construction inspection experience specifically for NYC Metro Public agencies.
  • Experience with construction inspection activities on construction projects for medium to larger sized facilities 
  • OSHA 10 Construction Safety Training

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Construction or a related field of study
  • Associate degree in Construction Management or Engineering Technology 
  • NYS Asbestos Project Monitor Certification
  • OSHA 30 Construction Safety Training
  • Confined Space Entry Training 
  • 4-hour scaffold safety training
  • AWS or NICET certification
  • Able to use basic functions of construction software document management applications such as eBuilder and the MS Office Suite (particularly Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint).

Arcadis offers benefits for full time and part time positions.
