Job description

ASSOCIATE DEAN โ€“ ADULT EDUCATION KENNEDY-KING COLLEGE

Kennedy-King College seeks a qualified candidate for the Associate Dean of Adult Education positions who can provide leadership, management, and direction to the Adult Education Department. The Adult Education Department is a comprehensive program of free classes for adult students who need to learn English or improve their basic literacy skills, obtain a GED certificate, or prepare for the Citizenship exam. The mission of the Adult Education Division of the City Colleges of Chicago (CCC) is to provide educational programs that help adults gain the knowledge, skills, and guidance necessary for transition to college and career pathways.

As an Associate Dean of Adult Education, you will have the opportunity to play a vital role in assisting in the success of our students by serving as the chief assistant to the Senior Dean of Adult Education in the areas of academic policy, student admissions, curriculum research and development, faculty recruitment, retention and budget development, and administration.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Identify and recommend staffing needs to the Dean. Interview and recommend to the Dean selection of part-time faculty. Evaluate part-time faculty and recommend retention or non-retention.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive orientation program for part-time faculty, in conjunction with the Office of Human Resources at the College and the District Office.
  • Provide an effective two-way channel of communication between the administration and faculty to ensure the integrity of the educational programs, the currency of the offerings, and the innovation of appropriate new technologies within the department. Aggressively pursue and follow through with issues of concern and assist in resolving problems.
  • Serve as a hearing officer regarding student complaints and recommend appropriate procedures for their resolution. Ensure that academic policies are distributed, explained, and adhered to by students and staff.
  • Prepare and develop budgets for the division in cooperation with the Business Office. Assist the Dean in monitoring the budget. Develop and implement procedures for the request, purchase and maintenance of instructional equipment and supplies and ensure the maintenance of accurate inventory control.
  • Work with the Registrarโ€™s Office to facilitate seamless registration processes for the Adult Education department consistent with District policies and procedures.
  • Coordinate and direct the evaluation, review and implementation of innovative curriculum additions and revisions, course outlines and syllabi and textbook selection.
  • Write proposals to seek external funding for specific projects and initiatives that require support beyond the Districtโ€™s capabilities.
  • Work with the Office of Research to plan and implement routine research concerning the numbers, status, and success of course offerings; prepare reports and analyses setting forth progress or adverse trends; and make appropriate recommendations and/or conclusions.
  • Use computer software to prepare memoranda and spreadsheet reports detailing activities and statistics.
  • Represent the college to community organizations and agencies and participate on district-wide committees.
  • Pay attention to detail in all aspects of each assignment to ensure accuracy of information and reports.
  • Serve as weekend and/or evening administrator for the College.
  • Adhere to CCC Customer Service Excellence standards.
  • Perform related duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in Education, English as a Second Language (ESL), or a related field required. Masterโ€™s degree in one or more of the above-stated fields preferred, supplemented by a minimum of five years of administrative experience in Adult Education and/or ESL programs; or an equivalent combination of training and experience required.
  • Proven organizational skills and supervisory ability.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate well with employees at all levels of the organization, in addition to students and other college customers.
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be computer proficient with knowledge of a variety of software programs.
  • Must be self-directed and innovative, able to assess current operations in an effort to improve the future goals of the District.
  • Must be able to meet deadlines in a timely manner.
Salary and Benefits

Salary Range: $92,866 - $94,000.
