Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The Energy Services Department consists of five groups: (1) Cogeneration Systems (generates electricity and steam, and the distribution of steam throughout campus and UNC Hospitals); (2) Electric Distribution Systems (distribution of electrical power throughout campus); (3) Chilled Water Systems (producing and distributing chilled water throughout campus); (4) Water, Wastewater and Stormwater (for the use and conservation of water, as well as the proper management of stormwater and runoff); and (5) Administration (provides GIS, SCADA, coordination of operational information technologies, strategic planning, and management functions). Together these five groups provide safe, reliable, environmentally responsible, and cost-effective steam, electricity, chilled water, sanitary sewer, reclaimed water, and potable water utility services to the University's campus in a manner that moves UNC closer to the goals of Three Zeros Environmental Initiative.
Position Summary
The Support Services Associate will assist Energy Services management in providing specialized on-site equipment, parts and materials inventory for Cogeneration Systems (CG) and Electric Distribution Systems (EDS). Currently the warehouses contain 274,017 items, valued at $10.1 million dollars.
This multifaceted position performs cycle counts, runs monthly usage and evaluation reports, and is responsible for maintaining adequate inventory levels necessary to ensure critical continuous operations. These responsibilities require detailed working knowledge of department level components, equipment and systems, and an understanding of inventory management in relation to cost tracking, planning and procurement. This position utilizes a computerized work management system, in particular the asset tracking, purchasing and inventory modules.
In addition, the Support Service Associate will assist with coordinating tasks, project oversight and surplusing assets and materials in accordance with department, University and State guidelines.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
High school diploma or equivalency.
Management Preferences
Experience in inventory management using a work management system to track inventory.
Ability to maintain, analyze and produce accurate records of merchandise cost, receiving, inventories, and surplus items with a high degree of accuracy and prioritize the importance. 
Excellent customer service skills to ensure customers' needs are met and satisfied, clearly convey information as well as, respond to non-routine inquiries.
Ability to assist with developing and implementing operational procedures and guidelines.
*Strong interpersonal skills to maintain effective working relationships with other employees, vendors, suppliers and/or campus contacts.
Required Licenses/Certifications
North Carolina Drivers' License.
Special Physical/Mental Requirements
* Primarily this position will be working in an office environment but from time to time based on customer needs will be expected to work in hot/cold/humid/dusty environments (such as outside and/or warehouse environments).
* This position requires bending, reaching, stooping, ascending/descend stairs/ladders, lifting/moving up to 50lbs.
* PPE will be provided when required (safety glasses, safety shoes and/or hard hats must be worn in posted areas).
