Beloit College seeks a collaborative, student-centered, and strategic leader to serve as Associate Dean of Students. Reporting to the Dean of Students, this 12-month generalist leadership role plays a pivotal part in advancing students' academic success, personal well-being, and sense of belonging-while strengthening institutional retention and campus life.
The Associate Dean of Students partners extensively with faculty and staff to assess emerging student needs, design proactive programming, and respond effectively to concerns. This role also co-directs Beloit's First-Year Transition Programs and serves as an energetic catalyst for innovation across the Division of Student Affairs.
Key Responsibilities
Student Academic & Personal Support
  • Lead coordinated support for students experiencing academic difficulty, including those on academic probation, warning, or with multiple academic alerts.
  • Oversee and enhance the academic alert (alert slip) system, including supervising staff, partnering with IT, and collaborating with faculty on effective use.
  • Provide direct advising, counseling, and support for students facing academic, personal, or transitional challenges.
  • Conduct and analyze withdrawal and vacation-term interviews to inform institutional response and policy.
  • Serve as a trusted resource for students, faculty, and staff-particularly around struggling students and student concerns.
  • Coordinate the Student Concerns Committee and professional development for staff working closely with students.
First-Year & Sophomore Experience
  • Co-direct all components of First-Year transition programming (Advanced Mentoring Program - AMP), including holistic advising training for faculty.
  • Collaborate with campus partners to implement Summer Orientation, New Student Days, Spring Orientation, and continuing onboarding initiatives.
  • Provide leadership for first-year and sophomore retention projects and related assessment efforts.
  • Manage associated programming budgets.
Retention & Institutional Collaboration
  • Research, recommend, and implement data-informed student retention strategies.
  • Partner with Registrar, Residential Life, and Student Affairs colleagues to address enrollment, registration, and housing concerns.
  • Coordinate outreach to students on vacation terms to support reconnection and re-engagement.
Leadership, Supervision & Development
  • Supervise and support the Director of Learning Enrichment and Disability Services.
  • Co-supervise departmental administrative staff and oversee evaluation, budgeting, and planning for Learning Enrichment and Disability Services.
  • Lead training and development for student leaders and paraprofessional staff (Orientation Leaders, RAs, Mentors, Learning Assistants).
  • Identify and address professional development needs for faculty and staff.
Campus Leadership & Service
  • Chair the Academic Performance Committee and facilitate the Student Concerns Committee.
  • Represent Student Life on major institutional committees as designated.
  • Contribute to institutional publications and processes such as the Student Handbook, awards selection, and student elections.
  • Serve as an engaged participant in Academic Senate meetings and faculty forums.
Qualifications
Required
  • Master's degree.
  • Minimum of five years of progressive experience in student affairs or a closely related field.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse populations.
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office and aptitude for learning new systems.

  • Experience in a residential liberal arts college environment.
  • Proven record of leadership, supervision, and program development.
