Associate General Counsel, you would be an integral part of our legal team, reporting to the General Counsel and working with us to provide expert legal counsel while supporting the smooth, efficient operation of our marketplace business. This is the perfect role for an experienced lawyer with an entrepreneurial mindset, incredible attention to detail, and a passion for learning and growing, who thrives in a dynamic, fast-paced startup environment.

In This Role, Your Responsibilities Would Include
  • Advising the business on a wide range of complex product and commercial matters.
  • Leading the drafting and negotiation of strategic commercial agreements.
  • Overseeing the review and drafting of template agreements governing the marketplace's operations.
  • Advising clients and key stakeholders on complex legal issues, marketing and operational matters, and business strategy, and manage/assess risk in connection with the companyโ€™s products and commercial relationships.
  • Proactively managing large-scale projects and โ€˜go to marketโ€™ launches with long-term goals.
  • Identifying and managing cross-functional strategic initiatives related to the companyโ€™s products and commercial relationships.
  • Building positive and highly collaborative relationships across Hiive.
Required Skills
  • A J.D. or L.L.B. with a license to practice law in the United States or in Canada.
  • 8+ years of relevant legal experience, ideally having started out at a law firm and honed in-house at a technology company.
  • Proven experience in drafting and negotiating vendor, marketing, and other complex and strategic commercial agreements.
  • Substantial experience counselling product teams on a broad spectrum of applicable legal issues.
  • Experience advising fintech or technology companies, or financial institutions.
  • A keen interest in creative legal problem-solving, including researching novel and ambiguous areas of law.
  • A desire to work on an agile team providing pragmatic advice and guidance to product, business, and operations teams that are moving very quickly.
  • A track record of sound judgment and composure in high-pressure situations.

  • Securities law experience.
  • Experience advising on privacy and data matters.
  • Experience in a tech start-up, high-growth company, or private equity or venture capital fund.
