Associate Founder information

How does an associate founder typically collaborate with other founding team members and early employees?

As an Associate Founder, you will work closely with the core founding team, often sharing responsibilities in strategy, product development, and business operations. Collaboration is highly cross-functional and fast-paced, with frequent brainstorming sessions, joint decision-making, and direct communication with early employees to align on goals and adapt to rapid changes. You'll likely be involved in both high-level planning and hands-on execution, making flexibility and strong interpersonal skills crucial for success in this role.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an associate founder, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Associate Founder, you need strong business acumen, strategic thinking, and a background in entrepreneurship or business management. Familiarity with project management tools, financial modeling software, and startup frameworks is highly valuable. Exceptional leadership, adaptability, and communication skills help drive vision and foster effective team collaboration. These competencies are vital for navigating the dynamic demands of building a successful business from the ground up.

What is the difference between Associate Founder vs Co-Founder?

AspectAssociate FounderCo-Founder
RoleEarly team member involved in founding activities, often with less decision-making authorityPrimary individual responsible for establishing the company, with full founding rights
CredentialsTypically has entrepreneurial experience, industry knowledge, and possibly startup fundingSimilar credentials, often with leadership experience and a strong entrepreneurial background
Work EnvironmentStartups or early-stage companies, collaborative and dynamicSame environment, often with more influence on company direction
Usage in IndustryLess common, used for early team members with founding aspirationsCommonly used to denote a primary founding member

In summary, an Associate Founder is usually an early team member involved in founding activities with less authority, while a Co-Founder is a primary individual who has established the company and holds significant founding rights. Both roles require entrepreneurial credentials and are integral to startup environments, but the Co-Founder typically has a more prominent leadership position.

What is an associate founder?

An Associate Founder is a key early team member who plays a significant role in starting and building a company, but is not necessarily the original creator or primary founder. They often join at the inception or shortly after and contribute essential skills, resources, or expertise to help launch and grow the business. Associate Founders may receive equity in the company and are typically recognized for their foundational impact, though they may not hold the same title or responsibilities as a primary founder.

Arcade

Job description

About Arcade
Arcade is a fast-growing company based in San Francisco, helping teams create AI-generated product videos in minutes. Our platform turns product demos, screenshots, and documentation into compelling launch videos automatically, helping software companies announce releases, educate customers, and tell better product stories.
We're a small, ambitious team building at the frontier of AI and creative tools. If you love new technology, great storytelling, and shipping quickly, you'll fit right in.
About the Role
We're hiring a Brand & Content Associate to own how Arcade sounds and looks in the wild, starting with the voice of our founder. We're looking for someone who lives on LinkedIn and X, spots trends before everyone else, writes copy people actually stop to read, and knows how to turn company momentum into compelling storytelling.
One minute you're ghostwriting a post that reframes how people think about product storytelling; the next you're creating a punchy video in Arcade itself, or turning a product release into everything social media. You'll work directly with our CEO, product, design, and engineering to tell the story of what we're building, and set the creative bar for everything we ship.
If you're chronically online, have genuinely great taste, and know the difference between content that gets impressions and content that builds a generational brand, we'd love to meet you.
What You'll Do
  • Own strategy and execution across Arcade's LinkedIn and X accounts
  • Build and maintain an editorial calendar around product launches, milestones, customer stories, and the AI moments worth jumping on
  • Ghostwrite and co-create founder-led content for our CEO, building her voice and audience, and shaping the category we're creating
  • Capture moments throughout the week and turn them into authentic founder and company content
  • Produce creative yourself, short videos, product moments, and social-native assets, using Arcade and lightweight tools, without waiting on a producer
  • Grow Arcade's social channels by 2x+ followers over the next year while deepening real engagement and reach
  • Protect and level up the brand voice, keeping a consistent, high-quality identity across every channel
  • Track what's resonating and use the data to sharpen the next thing you make

Who You Are
  • You have taste. You know the difference between good and great, and you're not satisfied until it's great.
  • You're LinkedIn and X native: you genuinely understand how each platform works and what makes something spread.
  • You're early to trends and tuned into internet and AI culture, and you can turn a cultural moment into a brand moment fast.
  • You can write exceptionally well. We'd trust you to write founder content without heavy editing.
  • You have strong design instincts and can make polished graphics, carousels, and lightweight motion and video content yourself.
  • You're early in your career but punch well above it: a maker who'd rather ship three great things this week than plan one for next month.
  • You're genuinely excited by AI and creative tools, comfortable with ambiguity, and eager to build something with a founder from the ground up.
  • You care deeply about quality, but you also know that consistency beats perfection.

Skills and Qualifications
  • 2+ years creating content and/or social for a technology, creative-tools, or consumer brand - or a portfolio strong enough to make the years irrelevant
  • A portfolio you can share (posts, videos, campaigns, brand moments)
  • Exceptional writing: you can nail a founder's voice, a product launch, and a native social post, each in their own register
  • Lightweight video and creative production: assembling clips, adding text and motion, and formatting natively per platform with tools like Screen Studio
  • Fluency in social analytics: you can read a platform dashboard and turn it into a content decision
  • Excited to use AI tools as part of your daily workflow

Nice to Have
  • You've worked with founders or executives on personal brand strategy
  • You know your way around Figma, Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, CapCut, or similar
  • Experience producing short-form video
  • Experience creating for a product used by creators and marketers (e.g., Canva, Figma, Runway)
  • You have opinions on the best SaaS accounts on X

Why Arcade Might Be a Great Fit for You
  • Own founder-led content and brand at one of the fastest-moving AI startups
  • Work directly with the CEO to build her voice and shape how Arcade shows up in the market
  • Be the creative force behind a brand in a category we're helping define
  • Be part of a small, highly collaborative team where your work ships immediately and is seen widely
  • Enjoy a meeting-light culture, rich health and 401(k) benefits, unlimited PTO, remote stipend, and biannual retreats

Contract-to-Hire
  • We're initially looking for someone to join us as a contractor (approximately 20-40 hours/week) with the goal of converting to a full-time role if it's a great mutual fit.

Compensation
  • Competitive hourly or monthly contract rate based on experience, with the opportunity to convert to a full-time role including salary and meaningful equity.

Our values ♥
  • Be a coach: We want the best for our customers and ourselves. We coach people to help them achieve their best potential. An "Arcader" is both a teammate and a customer. There is a reason that the same word describes both.
  • Carry the weight: We are owners. Let's empower each other. When we see something that needs change, we lead through it.
  • An open book: We are open as a team and as a product. We don't put walls up unless it's necessary. We become better when we share information. We are open to diversity of opinion, backgrounds, and thought.
  • Play as a team: We play because we're a creator tool. Life is short. Let's build something meaningful. We play as a team because great teams build great things together. We keep those standards high.
  • Be kind: We can be honest and kind. We can have high standards and be kind. We can say no and be kind. Kindness can vary across cultures, upbringings, and languages-but we try our best to be kind.
