What does an associate financial advisor do?

An Associate Financial Advisor supports senior financial advisors in providing investment and financial planning services to clients. Their responsibilities often include conducting research, preparing financial plans, assisting with client meetings, and managing client accounts. They may also help with administrative tasks and ensure compliance with financial regulations. This role is typically an entry-level position designed to help individuals gain experience and work toward becoming a full-fledged financial advisor.

What are some typical challenges an associate financial advisor may face when building their client base?

As an Associate Financial Advisor, one common challenge is establishing trust with potential clients, especially when you are early in your career and may not have an extensive track record. Prospecting and networking can require persistence, as building relationships and demonstrating value takes time. Additionally, navigating compliance requirements and staying updated on financial regulations can be demanding, but these are crucial for providing sound advice. Successful advisors often overcome these challenges by seeking mentorship, leveraging firm resources, and continuously improving their communication and technical skills.

Strong interpersonal skills, active listening, and ethical judgment help build client trust and foster long-term relationships. These competencies are crucial for providing sound financial advice, ensuring compliance, and supporting clients in achieving their financial goals.

Job description

Position: Associate Advisor
Firm: Vosberg Wealth Management
Location: Glendora, CA
About Us:
Vosberg Wealth Management is a retirement-focused financial planning practice based in Glendora, CA. We specialize in helping individuals over 50 navigate retirement with confidence โ€” covering everything from retirement income planning and Social Security to tax planning, Medicare, and investment management. As a fiduciary, we are committed to providing independent, personalized advice in the best interest of every client we serve. We take a structured, step-by-step approach to financial planning and pride ourselves on building lasting relationships with the people we work with.
Overview:
We are looking for a driven and client-focused Associate Advisor to work directly alongside our lead financial advisor. This is more than a support role โ€” you will actively participate in client meetings, contribute to financial plan development, and build toward managing your own client relationships as the practice grows. This role has the opportunity for advancement into a Financial Planner role. If you want to be part of a fast-growing firm with opportunity for advancement, this is the opportunity for you.
What You'll Do:
  • Participate in client meetings alongside the lead advisor
  • Build, prepare, and present comprehensive retirement plans and tax strategies
  • Develop and maintain client relationships with a focus on long-term trust
  • Provide proactive support to advisors and clients, anticipating needs and opportunities
  • Serve as an ongoing advisor for existing client relationships
  • Provide planning recommendations across retirement income, Social Security, tax, Medicare, and investment strategies
  • Assist with onboarding new clients and ensuring a seamless client experience
  • Manage account paperwork and coordinate with custodians
  • Maintain accurate client records in CRM
  • Stay current on financial planning strategies and tax law changes affecting retirees
What We're Looking For:
  • Bachelorโ€™s degree required
  • Active Series 65 or Series 66 license
  • Life Insurance license
  • 2โ€“4 years of experience in a financial planning or advisory role
  • CFP coursework, CFP candidacy, or CFP designation a plus
  • Solid understanding of retirement planning concepts โ€” income planning, Roth conversions, RMDs, Social Security, and Medicare
  • Familiarity with financial planning software (eMoney, MoneyGuidePro, RightCapital or similar)
  • Knowledge of tax planning software a plus
  • CRM experience
  • Experience managing client relationships and communication
  • Experience with account paperwork and workflows
  • Strong communicator โ€” confident in client-facing situations
  • Detail-oriented, organized, and able to work independently
  • Growth mindset โ€” you want to build something and grow into a lead advisor role
What Youโ€™ll Get:
Pay amp; Perks:
  • Base salary: $70,000 โ€“ $95,000/year depending on experience
  • Performance bonus potential
  • 401(k) with match
  • Benefits package (health, dental)
  • Clear and defined path to Lead Advisor as the practice expands
Schedule:
  • In office: Monday โ€“ Friday, 8:30am - 5:00pm
