What does an associate financial advisor do?

An Associate Financial Advisor supports senior financial advisors in providing investment and financial planning services to clients. Their responsibilities often include conducting research, preparing financial plans, assisting with client meetings, and managing client accounts. They may also help with administrative tasks and ensure compliance with financial regulations. This role is typically an entry-level position designed to help individuals gain experience and work toward becoming a full-fledged financial advisor.

What are some typical challenges an associate financial advisor may face when building their client base?

As an Associate Financial Advisor, one common challenge is establishing trust with potential clients, especially when you are early in your career and may not have an extensive track record. These competencies are crucial for providing sound financial advice, ensuring compliance, and supporting clients in achieving their financial goals.

Job description

About Strategic People Advisors

Strategic People Advisors is a boutique recruitment agency representing elite clients in the financial services sector. On behalf of our client—a prominent wealth management team appointed with the insurance companies of OneAmerica Financial®—we are searching for an Associate Financial Advisor. This is a direct-hire, joint-work position designed to pair a developing professional with an established, top-producing team.

Position Overview

This role bridges the gap between starting out and running a mature wealth management practice. Instead of cold-calling in isolation, you will be integrated directly into active client cases, participating in strategy design and joint-planning meetings alongside a Senior Partner.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support Senior Advisors in analyzing client data and preparing comprehensive macroeconomic financial models.
  • Participate in client meetings to assist with administrative follow-ups, case implementation, and annual review coordination.
  • Manage existing client relationships, addressing daily operational inquiries with high professional standards.
  • Collaborate with the team on local business development, group workshops, and educational marketing events.
Requirements
  • FINRA Series 7 and Series 66 (or Series 6 and 63) are highly preferred.
  • Active State Life & Health Insurance License is required (or must be obtained within 30 days of hire).
  • 1–3 years of experience in banking, insurance, or consultative client-facing sales.
  • High coachability, strong active-listening skills, and a collaborative mindset.
Compensation & Professional Development
  • Competitive income plus performance-based bonuses and joint-work splits.
  • Dedicated training program, licensing sponsorship, and a clear 3-year track to Lead Advisor status.
  • $50,000 - $100,000 per year. Compensation features a structured hybrid model, typically utilizing a starting base salary or draw program paired with performance bonuses, new business commissions, and joint-work payout splits.

This position operates on a professional hybrid schedule once initial training and licensing are completed.
