Job Description
Summary:
The BD family is seeking responsible and committed people to join our team of professional Field Service Engineers for the support of the BD Medication Management Solutions (MMS) automated dispensing segment. The BD Pyxis brand combines proven technology with actionable intelligence to prevent medication errors, help free up clinician time to focus on patient care, increase the predictability of medication availability and reduce inefficiencies in the medication use process. At almost every point in the medication use process, safety and efficiency can be increased with the comprehensive capabilities of the Pyxis medication management system.
The BD Pyxis Field Service Engineer (FSE) provides remote and on-site technical support for BD automated dispensing systems across the assigned region, including Department of Defense (DoD) and Defense Health Agency (DHA) facilities. This role is responsible for troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining proprietary hardware and software systems while ensuring regulatory compliance, service quality, and strong customer relationships. The Field Service Engineer is a field-based position with daily travel to our customer locations within the assigned territory. Candidates will reside within a 30-mile radius of the Tampa, FL area. The FSE will be willing to accommodate overnight travel if needed based on needs of the business. Those with 24/7 on-call coverage experience will succeed in this opportunity as this role's hours may change based on needs of the territory, so flexibility is key.
The ideal FSE will have strong troubleshooting, diagnostic, and problem-solving skills, with deep mechanical aptitude performing the ability to disassemble/reassemble complex systems. The FSE will be comfortable working independently and handling multiple priorities while also being part of and working with the broader team.
Responsibilities:
Technical Support & Troubleshooting
  • Provide remote and on-site technical support for automated dispensing systems, including support for DHA and DoD facilities.
  • Respond to, evaluate, prioritize, and resolve work orders within service-level expectations.
  • Diagnose and repair proprietary hardware and software components with full case ownership.
  • Independently troubleshoot complex issues and escalate to Senior or Lead FSEs as needed.
  • Support government accounts requiring eligibility for a CAC (Common Access Card).

Field Services & Preventive Maintenance
  • Execute preventive maintenance programs to ensure system reliability and uptime.
  • Perform installations, in-servicing, repairs, calibrations, and general technical support.
  • Maintain accurate inventory of spare parts in accordance with company policy.
  • Properly maintain company-issued assets including vehicle, tools, and equipment.

Customer Communication & Relationship Management
  • Build positive customer relationships through professional communication and timely support.
  • Document service activities, expenses, and time logs accurately using approved tools.
  • Partner with Sales and Implementation teams to support deployments and customer experience.

Compliance, Documentation & Quality
  • Follow service procedures including complaint handling and Medical Device Reporting.
  • Ensure all service documentation meets regulatory and corporate requirements.
  • Uphold company safety policies, quality expectations, and operational standards.

Training & Professional Development
  • Participate in ongoing training to expand technical knowledge of BD product lines.
  • Attend manager-approved seminars, training sessions, and development programs.
  • Stay informed on emerging technologies, best practices, and system updates.

Teamwork & Collaboration
  • Work independently and collaboratively to meet service goals and commitments.
  • Support leadership with escalations, advanced troubleshooting, and case resolution.
  • Contribute to preventive service culture through shared insights and proactive support.

Minimum Required Experience
  • Associate degree in S.T.E.M (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics)
  • Previous experience as a Field Service or Technical Support specialist
  • 1-3 years of combined hardware, software, and IT support experience with both proprietary and standard applications.
  • Ability to communicate written/verbal professionally in English (Professional technical customer communication and relationship development.)
  • Proficiency with Windows OS, networking, and diagnostic instruments.
  • Experience working both remote and on-site technical support.
  • Familiar with work-order evaluation, prioritization, and resolution.
  • Experience with diagnosis and repair of hardware/software components.
  • Experience with preventive maintenance, installations, repairs, and calibrations.
  • Familiar with inventory management and adherence to company policy.
  • Familiar with service documentation including expenses and time tracking.
  • Familiar with compliance with MDR and service procedures.
  • Ability and willingness to accommodate changing schedules, 24×7 on-call service
  • eligibility requirements for access to Local, State, and/or Federal facilities, which may include completion of background investigations and obtaining required identification credentials or security badges
  • Willing to accommodate travel as required.
  • Able to meet BD's company driving requirements
  • Based in or within a 30mile radius of Tampa FL or willing to relocate to the area.

Preferred Skill and experience:
  • Medical or electromechanical device repair experience required.
  • CompTIA A+ Certification or equivalent.
  • Experience working both remote and on-site technical support for automated dispensing systems.
  • Previous experience with 24×7 on-call service

Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to operate powered and manual hand tools.
  • Ability to lift 85 lbs. frequently and 115 lbs. occasionally, including overhead lifts.
  • Ability to climb, kneel, crawl, reach, grasp, stand, and walk for extended periods.
  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time during travel (Daily car travel required, with occasional air travel and overnight stays)
