Johns Hopkins Public Safety is seeing an Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Supervisor who provides operational oversight, mentorship, and clinical support for Johns Hopkins Emergency Response Organization (HERO), Johns Hopkins University's student-led EMS organization. This role supervises volunteer EMTs, supports training and quality improvement initiatives, ensures compliance with Maryland EMS and Maryland Institute for Emergency Medical Services Systems (MIEMSS) standards, and helps guide HERO's transition toward becoming an independent EMS organization. The position also serves as a liaison between HERO, Johns Hopkins Student Health and Well-Being, other university departments, and external public safety and healthcare partners to ensure high-quality emergency medical services for the university community.

The position works closely with Student Health and Well-Being's Chief Medical Director who serves both as HERO's staff advisor and the physician under whose medical license HERO operates. Specific Duties & Responsibilities Provide operational supervision and mentorship to volunteer EMTs and HERO student leadership. Participate in Quality Assurance/Quality Improvement (QA/QI) initiatives, including chart review, remediation, and clinical performance improvement.

Ensure compliance with Maryland EMS protocols, MIEMSS standards, and Johns Hopkins University policies and procedures. Assist in developing and implementing operational policies, protocols, and procedures consistent with MIEMSS recommendations and EMS best practices. Coordinate EMT training, onboarding, continuing education, and remediation activities.

Assist the HERO Training Officer with weekly training and operational exercises. Conduct field supervision and guide emergency medical responses as appropriate. Build and maintain collaborative relationships with Johns Hopkins LifeLine, Baltimore City Fire Department, Johns Hopkins Public Safety/Police Department, and other stakeholders.

Support HERO's strategic initiatives and organizational goals as established by the HERO Board of Directors. Participate in recruitment, interviewing, selection, and orientation of new HERO members. Attend promotional interviews for Duty Officers and Field Training Officers.

Meet regularly with Operational Board members and Operational Officers to ensure high standards of patient care and operational readiness. Ensure HERO vehicles, medical equipment, and operational resources comply with MIEMSS standards and are properly maintained. Participate in personnel meetings and assist with personnel-related operational concerns.

Assist with incident debriefings, operational reviews, and follow-up related to significant events or exposures. Support development of organizational continuity and long-term operational sustainability within HERO. Maintain required training, certifications, and university compliance requirements.

Partners with Student Health and Well-Being business staff to manage HERO budgets, supply procurement, and other related tasks. Perform additional duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Associates Degree in Emergency Medical Services, Fire Science, Organizational Leadership or related field.

Four years of EMS experience within a 911 response system. Two years of supervisory or leadership experience. Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond HS Diploma/Graduation Equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

Preferred Qualifications Four or more years of EMS experience within the Maryland EMS system, preferably in Baltimore City or Baltimore County. Maryland Paramedic certification. Four or more years of supervisory experience, preferably within EMS operations.

Bachelor's degree in emergency medical services, Fire Science, Organizational Leadership, Healthcare Administration, or related field preferred. Experience working within collegiate EMS, public safety, healthcare, or volunteer emergency response organizations preferred. Technical Qualifications & Specialized Certifications Maryland EMT-Basic certification.

Current American Heart Association (AHA) BLS CPR certification. Valid driver's license equivalent to a Maryland Class C operator's license or greater. Maryland EMS Instructor certification, or ability to obtain within one (1) year of hire.

Within 6 months of hire Ability to obtain ICS 100, 200, 700, and 800 certifications. Ability to obtain Bloodborne Pathogens, HIPAA, and Hazardous Materials Awareness certifications through Johns Hopkins MyLearning. Ability to obtain VFIS and/or EVOC certification.
