Controls Technician 1

Location- Mobile, AL / Montgomery, AL

Client- 1 Year

Contract- 1 Year

Job Summary

We are seeking a Controls Technician โ€“ Protection & Control (P&C) with 0โ€“3 years of experience to support the installation, maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting of protection and control systems used in power substations. This role is ideal for early-career technicians looking to build hands-on experience in electrical controls, automation, and substation protection systems.

The Controls Technician will apply electrical and computer-based skills to ensure reliable operation of protection and control equipment, including microprocessor relays, programmable logic controllers (PLCs), sensors, motors, pumps, and associated systems.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Install, maintain, test, and troubleshoot protection and control relaying systems and associated devices
  • Perform calibration and functional testing of protection and control relays and equipment
  • Assist in developing, updating, and maintaining protection and control documentation
  • Support assigned project leads with field activities and work assignments
  • Install, program, configure, and maintain P&C relays and control devices
  • Participate in process hazard analyses (PHA) and safety reviews
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and drawings
  • Maintain awareness of current industry standards, tools, and best practices
  • Follow safety, quality, and operational procedures in field environments

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent (required)
  • Associate's degree in Electrical Engineering, Industrial Maintenance, or a related field (preferred)
  • 0โ€“3 years of experience as a Controls Technician or in a similar technical role
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications
