Job description

Leapros Skilled Trades is actively hiring Electrical Engineer in Oak Brook, IL. The Electrical Engineer is responsible for designing and implementing electrical systems for diverse commercial projects including data centers, hospitals, and industrial facilities. This role involves creating comprehensive permit and construction drawings, performing complex load and coordination studies, and utilizing advanced design software to support design-build business development and field installation.

Job Type: Permanent

Annual Salary: $100,000 to $130,000 Annually BOE

Licenses/Certifications Required:

  • Professional Engineering (PE) license preferred
  • NABCEP certification preferred
  • State or City of Chicago electrician license advantageous
  • AutoCAD certification preferred

Responsibilities:

  • Perform professional electrical engineering design including single-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, wiring diagrams, and general equipment layouts.
  • Develop detailed electrical calculations for loads, equipment and feeder sizing, voltage drop, grounding, and lighting circuits.
  • Conduct specialized engineering studies including arc flash, short circuit, coordination, and Neher-McGrath calculations for power cable capacities.
  • Create schematic design documents and construction drawings using AutoCAD 2D/3D and Revit Modeling to support design-build efforts.
  • Perform project site surveys to assess existing field conditions and electrical infrastructure for new installations.
  • Prepare installation details, schedules, and calculations for submission to utilities and Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) for approval.
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and field leaders to provide critical technical information for construction and installation.
  • Capture record drawings from the field and update shop drawings based on field markups and site visits.
  • Develop layouts in AutoCAD based on building codes, customer requirements, and specific site constraints.
  • Ensure all designs and technical documents comply with the National Electrical Code (NEC), Chicago Electrical Code, and industry best practices.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in commercial electrical construction and design.
  • Strong working knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC) and the Chicago Electrical Code.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD 2D/3D, Revit Modeling, Bluebeam Software, and SKM PowerTools.
  • Experience designing electrical systems for industrial facilities, data centers, healthcare, and higher education buildings.
  • Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to work effectively in a high-pressure, deadline-driven environment while maintaining high attention to quality and detail.

Physical Requirements:

  • Regularly required to sit, stand, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer and keyboard for prolonged periods.
  • Ability to conduct project site surveys, which may involve walking through construction sites and assessing existing infrastructure.
  • Specific vision abilities required for close-up computer design work and reading technical drawings.
  • Occasional stooping, kneeling, or reaching during field inspections and site visits.
  • Light to moderate lifting may be required occasionally.

Pay Transparency:

The anticipated annual salary range for this position is $100,000 to $130,000 annually, based on relevant factors such as experience, skills, education, internal equity, and geographic location. Final compensation will be determined during the interview process by the hiring authority.
