Job Description
The Analytics and Performance Excellence (APEX) function supports AbbVie's US organization and is comprised of highly regarded researchers, analysts, data scientists and strategists who are committed to being best-in-class within the biopharmaceutical industry. We serve as a strategic in-house counsel, ensuring that all decisions leverage the key insights that we develop. We continue to build new capabilities and skill sets, encouraging our team members to pull up a chair, be themselves, be creative, speak their minds, and do good work. We are a passionate, diverse, flexible, and inclusive organization with a culture that supports the best ideas, wherever they originate. We are smart, fun, quirky, and innovative - and we'd love for you to join us.
The Associate Director, Analytics Products is the single-threaded product owner for AbbVie's Omnichannel analytics portfolio - a suite of capabilities spanning omnichannel marketing strategy, planning, execution, and measurement. Operating within the APEX Enterprise Advanced Analytics and Innovation team, this role holds ultimate accountability for these products' business value. Reporting to the Director, Data and Analytics Products, the AD partners closely with Data Science, Marketing, Digital Lab, BTS, APEX Business Units, and external partners to ensure Omnichannel analytics solutions are impactful, adopted, and continuously improving. This is a strategic, outcome-oriented leadership role combining deep AI/ML expertise with a product ownership mindset.
Key Responsibilities
  • Own the product vision, strategy, and roadmap for the Omnichannel analytics suite, ensuring alignment from strategy through execution.
  • Define the problem space - articulating business outcomes, user needs, scope, and the product backlog - while partnering with Data Science, Data Transformation, and BTS on technical delivery.
  • Manage the full APEX product lifecycle across Omnichannel initiatives, from Intake and Solutioning through Prioritization, Build & Validate, Delivery & Adoption, and Measure & Enhance.
  • Drive value-based prioritization, making disciplined trade-off decisions on scope, features, and timelines based on business impact, with clear acceptance criteria for deliverables.
  • Define and track success metrics, including adoption and business impact, and establish closed-loop measurement frameworks to assess end-to-end promotional effectiveness.
  • Partner with Marketing, Digital Lab, BTS, APEX Business Units, and external vendors to co-develop analytics solutions that deliver quantifiable value across HCP and patient journeys.
  • Represent analytics products in Product Council and Steering Committee forums as the authoritative voice on product direction and trade-offs.
  • Engage stakeholders consultatively, shifting conversations from feature requests to problem definitions, user outcomes, and measurable results.
  • Communicate insights and strategy clearly - creating compelling roadmap presentations and recommendations for executive and senior cross-functional audiences.

Supervisory / Management Responsibilities
Leads 1-2 direct reports with coaching, development, and performance management. Manages vendor relationships and budgets for analytics products, ensuring external partnerships deliver measurable value aligned to product outcomes.
Key Competencies
  • Outcome-oriented: Defines success metrics, measures product impact, and holds teams accountable to results - not delivery milestones.
  • Product ownership clarity: Clearly distinguishes product ownership from project management; operates as a value maximizer and decision maker.
  • Influence without authority: Builds alignment across Marketing, Data Science, Engineering, BTS, and partners through credibility and strategic framing.
  • Disciplined prioritization: Makes and defends scope and trade-off decisions based on business value.
  • Executive communication: Presents complex analytics concepts and product strategies to senior audiences with clarity.
  • Consultative problem-framing: Translates ambiguous business challenges into well-scoped product opportunities with measurable outcomes.
  • Cross-functional collaboration: Builds trust across diverse stakeholder groups while maintaining clear decision rights per the APEX governance model.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Statistics, Economics, Engineering, or a related quantitative field. Advanced degree (MBA, MS, or PhD) preferred.
  • 10+ years in marketing analytics, digital analytics, or commercial analytics in biopharma, healthcare, or life sciences.
  • 6+ years as a product owner or product manager for analytics, data, or technology products, with full lifecycle ownership.
  • 6+ years in omni-channel analytics, engagement analytics, journey analytics, or closed-loop measurement.
  • 6+ years defining data and technology requirements in collaboration with data science, engineering, or technology teams.
  • 6+ years measuring commercial effectiveness via promotional response analysis, closed-loop measurement, A/B testing, or quasi-experimental methods.
  • 2+ years leading, mentoring, and developing direct reports in an analytics or product function.
  • Demonstrated experience managing vendor relationships to deliver analytics capabilities at enterprise scale.
  • Hands-on experience with data science tools (Python, R, SQL) and ability to engage technically with data science and technology partners.

Preferred Experience
  • Agile product development experience: backlog management, sprint planning, user story writing, and acceptance criteria.
  • Familiarity with pharma data sources (Symphony Health, IQVIA, or equivalent prescription, patient, and omnichannel marketing data).
  • Experience within formal product governance frameworks, including intake triage, investment prioritization, and steering committee processes.

Additional Information
