Position Specific Description
Data Governance plays a critical role in the company's daily operations and long-term growth. We are seeking an experienced person with a strong background in the Insurance Programs and Specialty P&C insurance industry to drive data quality efforts within the company. This role also involves liaising with the organization's' technology and compliance teams to ensure data privacy, data security, data storage and compliance frameworks. The ideal candidate will be responsible for setting policies, managing projects, enforcing controls, and chair the Palms' Data Governance Committee. This role requires both a structured thinker and a hands-on executor who can work across departments to drive clarity, alignment, and actionable outcomes by bridging the gap between business, compliance and technology functions.
Job Overview
The Data Governance leader plays a critical role in supporting the organization's daily operations and enabling long-term growth by driving enterprise-wide data quality and governance standards, with a focus on the Insurance Programs and Specialty P&C insurance business. This role is responsible for establishing and enforcing data governance policies, frameworks, and controls, while partnering closely with business, technology, and compliance teams to ensure alignment on data privacy, security, storage, and regulatory requirements.
The ideal candidate will lead data quality initiatives, manage governance-related projects, and chair the Palms Data Governance Committee. This role requires a balance of strategic thinking and hands-on execution, with the ability to work across departments to translate complex data needs into clear, actionable outcomes that drive consistency, transparency, and operational effectiveness.
Job Duties & Responsibilities
  • Establish the Data Governance Framework, which includes designing and implementing comprehensive data governance policies, standards, and procedures across all business functions; defining data ownership, accountability, and stewardship models to ensure clear responsibility for data quality and integrity; and creating and maintaining data dictionaries, class tables, and other similar standards
  • Define and execute the company's data governance roadmap including best practices, controls, data quality checks and security protocols
  • Support the implementation and maintenance of the Data Compliance Program across the business functions, ensuring Palms meets its legal, regulatory, and reputational responsibilities
  • Support Compliance in maintaining documentation for annual certifications regarding data compliance and reporting to relevant governance bodies; including compliance with NYDFS and CCPA regulations
  • Establish and chair the Palms Data Governance Committee reporting into Palms executive leadership
  • Establish and implement standards for HIPPA, PII, PCI and PHI compliance
  • Ensure data lifecycle management - from collection to storage retention, archival and disposal
  • Lead data initiatives to enhance operational efficiency, customer experience and business growth.
  • Develop and enforce policies, procedures and standards to ensure data security, system reliability and work efficiency
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to identify and prioritize data initiatives that drive business value
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned
