Position Title: Associate Java Developer

POSITION SUMMARY
We are seeking an Associate Developer to support software development, sustainment, and modernization efforts for systems supporting the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). This role is ideal for an early-career software developer who is eager to learn enterprise application development and work within a complex federal healthcare environment.
The Associate Developer will support both legacy Java-based applications and modernization initiatives, working alongside senior engineers to implement enhancements, resolve defects, develop integrations, and support modernization activities. The primary focus of this role will be supporting existing enterprise applications while gaining exposure to modern cloud-native and microservices architecture.
RESPONSIBILITIES
โข Support development, testing, and maintenance of enterprise Java applications
โข Assist with analysis and remediation of software defects and production issues
โข Support enhancements to legacy applications utilizing Java, Spring Framework, Struts, JSP, WebLogic, Oracle, and related technologies
โข Develop and maintain REST and SOAP-based integrations
โข Participate in modernization efforts utilizing Java 17, Spring Boot, REST APIs, and microservices
โข Support database development activities involving Oracle databases and SQL queries
โข Participate in Agile/Scrum ceremonies and collaborate with developers, testers, product owners, and stakeholders
โข Create and maintain technical documentation
โข Support code reviews, testing activities, and deployment processes
โข Learn and apply software engineering best practices, coding standards, and security requirements
QUALIFICATIONS
โข Bachelorโs degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or related field (or equivalent experience)
โข 1โ3 years of software development experience
โข Experience with Java development
โข Familiarity with SQL and relational databases
โข Familiarity with web services, REST APIs, or application integrations
โข Understanding of object-oriented programming concepts
โข Experience working within Agile development environments
โข Strong problem-solving and communication skills
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
โข Experience with Spring Framework or Spring Boot
โข Experience with Oracle databases
โข Familiarity with Git version control
โข Familiarity with JavaScript, HTML, and web application development
โข Experience supporting federal or healthcare systems
โข Exposure to React or modern front-end frameworks
WORKING CONDITIONS
Standard Business hours are Monday through Friday. Occasional extended or weekend hours may be required based on operational needs. Must have reliable internet service that allows for effective telecommuting.
PAY RANGE
The base salary range for this position is $90,000 to $100,000 annually, depending on geographic work location, relevant experience, skills, education, internal equity, security clearance, and contract requirements. Geographic salary ranges are determined in accordance with the company's compensation practices and represent a good-faith estimate of the compensation for this position at the time of posting.
