Clark Nexsen, a JMT Company is seeking an Electrical Designer who will perform electrical design services on multi-discipline building design projects for commercial, higher education and government facilities of moderate to large scope.

Immigration sponsorship or support (e.g. H1B, F-1 CPT/OPT/STEM OPT) is not available for this position, except for qualified candidates eligible for the TN visa classification.

Compensation for this position is $80,000.00 - $95,000.00, commensurate with experience, education and certifications. The provided range is a good faith estimate based on the requirements described within the job description. We notice that we receive a wide variety of applicants and recognize that the person selected may be less experienced or more experienced. If so, the actual salary range may vary from the estimate provided.

General responsibilities include but are not limited to the following

  • Preparation, technical accuracy and coordination of programming documents, schematic documents, design development documents, and construction documents as directed
  • Performing various design services including Conceptual Studies, Program Requirements, Design Analyses, Calculations, System selection and layout for building design with minimal direction from supervising staff.
  • Providing oversight and coordination of projects, and working with assigned design managers and project managers, to meet client's budget, contract fees, goals, objectives, and deadlines
  • Coordinating and communicating all aspects of electrical design within multi-disciplinary teams as requested by the Design Manager or Project Engineer.
  • Performing duties associated with the bidding process, including preparing addenda and amendments and opening and tabulating bids as directed
  • Performing duties associated with the construction phase, including field visits, answering RFIs, reviewing shop drawings, and preparing record drawings as directed
  • Complying with the company's quality control practices and procedures

  • Ability to prepare effective and concise documents
  • Possess technical precision and creative design skills
  • Ability to make effective presentations to a variety of groups
  • Have a can-do attitude with a desire to provide outstanding professional services
  • Be dedicated to their professional development as well as the success of colleagues and the firm as a whole
  • Proficient in MS Office Software
  • Proficient in discipline specific design software

  • Have earned a high school diploma, or equivalent, and completed coursework in AutoCAD, Revit, and/or BIM software packages from a technical or vocational school; or
    • An Associate's Degree in a field of study related to drafting and design; or
    • A Certificate in a field of study related to drafting and design; or
    • A four-year undergraduate degree in a field of study related to drafting and design
    • The following may be given additional consideration:
  • 5 years or more of A/E consulting experience as a CAD or BIM Technician, Designer or Senior Designer working under the supervision and guidance of a licensed Electrical Engineer (PE).
  • Applicable Autodesk certifications
  • Active membership in drafting or modeling-related organizations (local or web-based)
  • Certificate of Management for Building Information Modeling (CM-BIM)
  • Understanding of sustainable design principles and design practices included in LEED and Well Building standards is encouraged
  • Registered Communications Distribution Designer (RCDD) certification

Preferred Experience

  • Additional certifications such as LC and IALD are encouraged to reflect personal growth in the profession and an ever-increasing knowledge base to enhance the design and documentation process
  • Experience in federal, state, municipal, healthcare, commercial, higher education or similar projects plus experience in Design/Build and CM at Risk project delivery methods is desirable

Working Conditions

At JMT, we prioritize a healthy work/life balance and offer a flexible hybrid working schedule. JMT offers a hybrid work schedule. The selected candidate is expected to work in a JMT office location at least three days per week or as needed to perform assigned duties. While most of our work is desk-based, there may be times when standing, walking, bending and lifting of minimal weight are required.
