Job Title: Visual Content Identity Assistant - Graphic Design (WS-ST2)

Length of Position: 2026 - 2027 AY. 

Training/Arrival Period (Required):

  • Move-in to the Residence Halls, Wednesday, September 2nd; 4:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m. 

  • Training Begins, Thursday, September 3rd; 1:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. 

  • New Student Move-in: Friday, September 4; 7:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. 

  • Move-in Transition: Saturday, September 5 - Sunday, September 6 

    • Dates without timeframes will be defined for the staff member during the Training. 

Supervisor: Associate Dean of Students for Residence Life & Student Conduct/Designee

Wage Range: $12.00-13.00/hour

I. Description/Purpose of the Position: The Graphic Designer Assistant provides graphic design support for the Residence Life Team. Secondary support will be provided for social media engagement and strategy, website management, and visual asset content. The position acts as a representative for Residence Life. The individual will do the following: create, support, and integrate themselves into the office's branding through physical, visual, and social media content.  The position requires an individual to demonstrate extroverted characteristics and have the ability to engage in verbal and electronic dialogue to demonstrate the value of on-campus living. 


II. Transferable Skills: 

  • Visual Branding: Creating innovative graphic marketing materials that successfully promote the campus living experience

  • Data & Systems Analysis: Capturing and analyzing social media metrics to establish clear tracking systems.

  • Digital Communication: Monitoring online trends and updating website content to maintain active student engagement.

  • Project Organization: Organizing an electronic file database to keep all design assets stored safely.



III. Duties and Responsibilities: 

  1. Social Media Management:

  • Create, assist, and coordinate content for the visual creation of the official social media accounts (Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter)

  • Monitor social channels for trending news, ideas, and memes, then utilize observed information through the Residence Life Office's social media platforms


  1. Graphic Design and Content Creator:

  • Review and edit all graphic designs related to material produced within the Residence Life 

  • Create innovative graphic marketing materials


  1. Marketing and Outreach Strategy:

  • Assist in coordinating various marketing methods, including direct mail, print ads, networking, internet, social media, and developing new methods of marketing


  1. Data Tracking and Systems:

  • Coordinate capturing and analyzing social media metrics and establish a tracking system

  • Create an electronic file database for the storage of all content

  • Review and edit the Residence Life Website


  1. Events and Operation:

  • Allow assigned space on campus to be utilized as a Showroom for special events

  • Attend all training, in-services, and development meetings requested by the Residence Life Office


IV. Requirements of This Position (Education):

  • Must be enrolled in a degree program at St. Olaf College during the academic year and maintain good standing in academics and conduct

  • Must maintain a cumulative/semester GPA of 2.5. If a student staff member's GPA (semester/cumulative) falls below 2.5, their retention will be based on individual consultation

  • Students should have no pending cases, active sanctions, and/or resolved cases that would prevent effective performance as student staff members


V.Qualifications (Experience/Skills): 

  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere Pro) or design platforms like Canva.

  • A digital portfolio demonstrating graphic design, photography, or video editing capabilities is required.


IMPORTANT: Although previous work experience is not required, students are expected to submit a portfolio illustrating their skills and aesthetic in graphic design. After their application and portfolio are reviewed, selected students will be asked to interview with the Residence Life Office.
