Job description

In-Office Position
General Summary: Engineers will be provided an opportunity to expand their technical knowledge of the distribution system. They will assist and/or lead project teams to create high-quality designs for new projects, alterations, and redevelopments on a variety of projects including electrical distribution, transmission, and substation design. Engineers will apply calculations to various project challenges to develop complete and competent designs, compile design packages for construction, perform quality reviews of project deliverables, network with clients, and maintain client relationships. Will work closely with the project team throughout the design and construction process, adapting electrical plans according to budget constraints, design factors, and client needs.
Key Roles and Responsibilities:
  1. Use CAD Related Software for Client requirements.
  2. Will assume the lead project engineer role and interface with clients to manage the project appropriately and build effective relationships with future customers and existing clients.
  3. Apply knowledge of commonly used electrical engineering/utility design concepts, principles, practices, codes, and procedures within the utility industry.
  4. Work independently and be willing to train and coach newer less experienced engineers.
  5. Work with designers on interpreting client requirements.
  6. Assists in the electrical design of projects from the conceptual phase through design completion.
  7. Research information and will compile data for client presentations, shop drawings for review, and contract administration for the design of electrical distribution, transmission, and substation facilities.
  8. Prepare cost-effective projects, packaged equipment specifications, data sheets, and Requests for Qualifications using good engineering practices.
  9. Effectively manage projects while maintaining work product quality, consistency, accuracy, and reliability.
  10. Give feedback and revise drawings; adhere to all QA/QC processes; verify corrections are made within multiple CAD Related Software.
  11. Ability to apply analysis to identify the best solution to a technical problem, effectively communicate and commit to a course of action to maintain compliance with code, standards, or other requirements as well as company policies and site safety procedures.
  12. Work with leaders and team members to facilitate/support internal change efforts to increase organizational effectiveness.

Desired Skills:
  • Engineering degree, from an ABET-accredited university.
  • Knowledge of standard engineering techniques and procedures.
  • Knowledge of electrical equipment design ANSI and IEEE Standards.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment and demonstrated critical thinking skills.
  • Proficient computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite)
  • Basic computer skills include AutoCAD, MicroStation, 2D and 3D rendering programs and other analysis programs.
  • Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent time and project management capabilities to meet deadlines.
  • Inquisitive by nature, self-motivated.

Education and Experience Requirements:
Associate Engineer
  • Must currently be eligible to work in the United States of America.
  • Bachelor of Science in a field of engineering required.
  • Successfully pass Fundamentals of Engineering [FE], preferred.
  • Entry-Level Position; 0-2 years of engineering experience.
  • Ability to work with moderate supervision.
  • Mentor Engineer-Tech/Designers I-III on electrical design projects from the conceptual phase through design completion.

Engineer
  • Must currently be eligible to work in the United States of America.
  • Bachelor of Science in a field of engineering required.
  • EIT with the ability to become a registered PE.
  • Mid-Level Position; 3-6 years of engineering experience, consulting experience preferred.
  • Ability to work as an individual contributor and team lead on multiple projects.
  • Facilitates internal change efforts to increase organizational effectiveness.
  • Responsible for making sure design standards and NESC requirements are adhered to.

Senior Engineer
  • Must currently be eligible to work in the United States of America.
  • Bachelor of Science in a field of engineering required.
  • EIT with the ability to become a registered PE; prefer PE license.
  • Senior Level Position; 7+ years of electrical utility experience.
  • Ability to lead, direct, train, and educate other engineers and designers.
  • Manage major design and complex projects; perform final QA/QC review of projects to client standards.
