SUMMARY OF POSITION:

Design Engineer is responsible for design engineering support of new and existing product, including part, tool, fixture, and gage design in a metal stamping, fabricating and assembly environment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

This list of duties and responsibilities is not all-inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities, as management may deem necessary from time to time.

  • Read and interpret part prints, print changes and specifications
  • Design progressive metal stamping and slide forming tools
  • Design tools for sheet metal punching, forming and fabricating
  • Design gages, staging fixtures and comparator traces to support inspection of production parts
  • Design fixtures for welding and assembly
  • Specify material based on customer print and specifications
  • Establish and maintain design timeline
  • Provide customer feedback on print tolerances and product design for manufacturability
  • Support Tool Engineering, Production and Manufacturing Engineering during development and pilot run
  • Participate in product launch teams within the framework of Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP)
  • Support internal teams with other design assistance as required
  • Other duties as assigned or required

QUALIFICATIONS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or abilities required.

  • Associateโ€™s degree in Mechanical Design Engineering or related field; a minimum of two (2) years related design experience required and a minimum of three (3) years of manufacturing, metal stamping or fabrication experience required; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Proven organization skills required
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Familiarity with Logopress3 preferred
  • 3D CAD proficiency required, SolidWorks preferred
  • Familiarity with APQP process preferred

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle or feel; frequently required to sit and talk or hear; occasionally required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
