Job description

Consumers Energy is Michigan's largest energy provider, providing natural gas and/or electricity to 6.8 million of the state's 10 million residents in all 68 Lower Peninsula counties. Location: This is a hybrid (virtual/onsite) position with required onsite days on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday assigned to the One Energy Plaza headquarters located in Jackson, MI. The selected candidate must be within a commutable distance or willing to relocate (relocation package is available for those that qualify).

General Summary of Job Responsibilities
The Executive Director, Total Rewards serves as a strategic partner by collaborating with leadership across the organization and Human Resources Professionals to achieve business priorities through a comprehensive Total Rewards Strategy, ensuring compensation and benefits programs align with the goals of the company and support a high-performance culture by rewarding and attracting top talent. This role will remain current on industry trends, best practices and compliance and drive operational excellence and innovation in all areas of responsibility.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Develop and lead the Company's comprehensive strategy for Total Rewards using compelling, equitable compensation and benefits programs aimed at attracting and retaining world-class talent in a competitive environment and across multi-disciplines
  • Provide leadership and direction to Total Rewards team and cross-functional partners to ensure executional excellence and strong regulatory compliance with all applicable legislation. Work in partnership, internally and externally, to maintain company-wide compliance to FLSA and Equal Pay Act, DOL, Wage & Hour, ERISA, COBRA, HIPPA, FMLA, IRS regulations as they relate to benefits and general compensation.
  • Support the VP Human Resources, Director of Compensation and the Compensation Committee of the Board of Directors to ensure governance of the Company's Compensation and Rewards programs.
  • Develop and present recommendations to inform and influence quality and timeliness of company decisions; Inspire trust and build strong relationships with stakeholders
  • Provide strategic direction, planning, and requirements to execute the design, implementation, communication, and administration of the company's compensation programs; including annual short- and long-term incentives and executive compensation
  • Continuously evaluate the effectiveness of our rewards programs to ensure they are aligned with our business and talent strategies and monitor market trends to make recommendations for changes, as appropriate.
  • Provide strategic direction, planning and requirements in the design, implementation, communication and administration of the company's benefits programs, including leave management, health and welfare, retirement & savings programs.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to comfortably handle difficult conversations.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word)
  • Knowledge of Human Resource Management software (SuccessFactors), Preferred
  • Knowledge and application of Lean practices and tools for continuous improvement.
  • Ability to establish strong partnerships with internal customers to ensure a high level of customer service and relationship building.
  • Experience working cross functionally with key stakeholders across an organization, managing relationships and organizational change dynamics with discretion and tact.
  • Demonstrated success in translating organizational objectives into total rewards strategies and executing strategies to deliver business results
  • Strong business acumen and financial literacy
Education/Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources Management, Business Administration, or other related area and 12+ years of experience in functional areas including Benefits, Compensation, and leadership experience.
