Job description

SUMMARY:

The Associate Degree Nursing Instructor is responsible to the Director of Associate Degree Nursing. The following job description was taken from Accreditation Standards And Rules And Regulations for Mississippi Programs of Nursing. Items will be adjusted as needed in accordance with standards or accepted practice in the profession.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Develops, implements and evaluates the program of learning.
2. Develops standards for the admission, progression, and graduation of students.
3. Participates in academic advisement.
4. Participates in the activities of the total faculty of the parent institution in ways that benefit the institution, the unit in nursing, and the faculty.
5. Participates in professional and community activities for the purpose of bringing education, service, and research findings together for the improvement of health care.
6. Meets all requirements listed in the general Classroom Instructor job description.
7. Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Master of Science Degree in Nursing
  • One (1) year of clinical experience as a registered nurse
  • One (1) year of teaching experience as a nursing instructor
  • Must hold an unencumbered license from Mississippi
  • Satisfy a criminal history background check

PREFERED JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Previous teaching experience in the following areas.
    • Maternal/Newborn Nursing
    • Medical/Surgical Nursing
    • Psychiatric Nursing
    • NCLEX Preparation

ENVIRONMENT AND DEMANDS:

  • The work environment is an office/classroom setting with moderate noise.
  • While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
