Job description

Spiritus Sanctus Academy Plymouth is currently seeking an Middle School Science Teacher to join our team of enthusiastic Catholic educators for the 2026-27 school year. Candidates must be passionate about supporting the Catholic educational mission of our school. The candidate must be able to provide a positive learning environment, organize the classroom to facilitate student learning, supervise the safety and welfare of students, and help nurture a positive Catholic culture, through his or her own example and by cooperating in the formation of each child as a joyful disciple of Christ.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Supporting the Catholic educational mission of the school
  • Using virtue-based methods to foster discipleship and a classroom environment conducive to growth and learning
  • Preparing and delivering sound instruction to advance students toward content mastery
  • Effectively assessing student learning and performance
  • Possessing and teaching organizational habits to foster an environment of learning and growth
  • Developing, implementing and supporting a positive and joyful school climate, and responsibly supervising students both in and out of the classroom, in the spirit of the Preventative Method of St. John Bosco
  • Collaborating with school administration, faculty, staff and parents to maximize students' spiritual, intellectual, social and physical formation
  • Attending faculty meetings, professional development training, and other school events as required
  • Other duties as deemed necessary and/or assigned by the principal
Qualifications:
  • A faithful practicing Catholic, who offers a joyful witness of a life of faith, and is passionate about creating and nurturing a Catholic culture in the classroom and throughout the school, and leading students to a deeper love of Christ and life of virtue
  • Bachelor's degree in Math, Science, or Education with a concentration in Math and/or Science
  • Current State of Michigan Elementary or Secondary Teaching Certificate with Endorsement in Math and/or Science is preferred, or certification from a state with a reciprocal agreement with Michigan or willingness to obtain MI certification within two years of hire;
  • Previous experience teaching in a Catholic school is preferred, as is previous experience at the middle school level.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, organizational, and classroom management skills
  • Must demonstrate personal self-discipline, show initiative, and be adaptable and flexible in both routine and unexpected situations
  • Knowledge and implementation of good instructional practices
  • VIRTUS safe environment training and a background check
  • A mastery of content and a joy in teaching!
