What is an associate degree in instrumentation?

An Associate Degree in Instrumentation is a two-year postsecondary program that prepares students to work with instruments and control systems used in industries such as manufacturing, energy, and chemical processing. The curriculum typically covers topics like electronics, process control, industrial automation, and instrumentation calibration. Graduates are trained to install, maintain, and troubleshoot instrumentation equipment that measures and controls variables like pressure, temperature, and flow. This degree often leads to entry-level technician roles and can serve as a foundation for further education in engineering or technology fields.

What types of entry-level positions can I pursue after earning an associate degree in instrumentation, and what are the typical responsibilities?

With an Associate Degree in Instrumentation, graduates commonly start in roles such as instrumentation technician, calibration technician, or maintenance technician. In these positions, you'll be responsible for installing, calibrating, maintaining, and troubleshooting a variety of control and measurement instruments used in industries like manufacturing, energy, and chemical processing. You may work both independently and as part of a team, often collaborating with engineers and operators to ensure equipment runs safely and efficiently. These roles provide hands-on experience and can serve as a strong foundation for future advancement into supervisory or specialized technical positions.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an instrumentation technician with an associate degree, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Instrumentation Technician with an Associate Degree, you need a solid understanding of electronics, control systems, and instrumentation principles, typically gained through your associate program. Familiarity with PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers), calibration tools, process control software, and relevant safety certifications is often required. Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and effective teamwork skills help you excel in troubleshooting and maintaining complex systems. These skills ensure the safe and efficient operation of automated processes, which is critical for productivity and safety in industrial environments.

Job description

The Data Product team is seeking a Manager, Data Product Management to lead instrumentation across the News & Entertainment portfolio of digital products from world-renowned brands such as ABC, ABC News, Marvel, Freeform, FX, and National Geographic, among others. The data collection this team leads is the foundation for measurement across the portfolio โ€” the clickstream telemetry and video consumption signal that determine what the business knows about product engagement and content performance. It's how some of the world's most recognizable brands understand how their content is consumed, which means it has to hold up when decisions get made โ€” and building data the business can trust is at the heart of the work. You'll lead a team of Data Product Managers owning measurement strategy, platform configuration, and self-service enablement across the portfolio's digital and audience-measurement tools โ€” consistently keeping the business on the right stack and evaluating emerging capabilities. You'll be the primary point of contact for senior leaders across both Product & Technology and the Disney Entertainment business, set a clear standard for rigorous measurement work, and own the roadmap for how data collection evolves across the portfolio. If you've held measurement quality across a complex multi-brand portfolio, stayed technical enough to catch what others miss, and stayed ahead of where measurement is heading rather than just reacting to it, we'd like to hear from you. Responsibilities and Duties of the Role : * Lead and develop the team, setting the standard for N&E measurement and raising the bar across Product & Technology. * Collect with intent โ€” building the data foundation for intelligence about how the business's products and content perform. * Own and evolve N&E measurement strategy across editorial, video, and audience measurement, sequencing multi-brand priorities and evaluating emerging capabilities. * Drive execution across brands, resolving cross-team dependencies and staying ahead of delivery risk. * Bring the technical depth to hold the team to a high bar โ€” pressure-testing implementations, event and schema specs, and quality standards across the measurement stack. * Own data quality outcomes across the portfolio, closing coverage gaps before downstream teams do. * Ensure stakeholder needs become measurement specs and platform configurations that scale across brands, increasingly AI-assisted and built with engineering. * Serve as the single point of contact for senior leadership across N&E's brands, translating their priorities into measurement direction. * Partner with Data Engineering, Product Engineering, Product Management, and Business Operations across the N&E portfolio. * Manage relationships with enterprise platform partners, ensuring Disney realizes the full value of those investments. * Represent the team's strategy to senior leaders across the company. Basic Qualifications * 8+ years in data product management, data instrumentation, or digital analytics implementation. * Direct experience leading and developing teams in instrumentation, analytics, or measurement, accountable for both performance and the team's standards. * Fluency with AI tools in your own work, and a track record of raising that bar across your team. * Deep expertise across enterprise analytics and instrumentation platforms โ€” capable of setting the standard for how the work gets done, not just overseeing it. * Strong product sense: you've owned strategy and roadmap for a measurement product or portfolio with clear outcome accountability. * Proven ability to represent measurement priorities, tradeoffs, and risks to senior stakeholders across a multi-brand portfolio. * Track record of cross-functional execution across Product Engineering, Product Management, Analytics, QA, Research, and Program teams in matrixed organizations. * Strong command of the modern cloud data stack and how instrumented data flows downstream. * Clear communicator who can make complex technical topics accessible and actionable for any audience, including executives. Preferred Qualifications * Experience leading measurement for News, Media, or content-driven digital products at scale: editorial, video, audience measurement, or content performance analytics. * Experience managing measurement across a multi-brand or multi-property portfolio with shared quality standards. * Data observability experience: monitoring platforms and pipelines for quality, freshness, schema drift, and completeness. * Strong understanding of data governance, privacy, and compliance (GDPR, CCPA) in consumer-facing products. * Experience enabling self-service analytics across a large organization. * Advanced degree in Product Management, Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Science, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience. Required Education Bachelor's degree in Computer Science , Engineering, Business, Analytics, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience. #Disneytech The hiring range for this position in New York City, NY is $179,700 - $241,000 per year, in San Francisco, CA is $187,900 - $252,000 per year, and in Santa Monica, CA and Bristol, CT is $171,600 - $230,100 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate's geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
