Brief Description of Duties
The University of the District of Columbia (UDC) is a public, urban, land-grant institution and a proud Historically Black College and University (HBCU). As the only public institution of higher education in Washington, D.C., UDC is committed to providing affordable, high-quality post-secondary education to D.C. residents across certificate, associate, baccalaureate, and graduate levels.
Within UDC, the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences (SEAS) offers a range of innovative and rigorous academic programs. These include ABET-accredited bachelor's degrees in Biomedical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering, as well as graduate degrees in these fields. Additional programs include bachelor's degrees in information technology, Cybersecurity, and Computer Engineering.
SEAS students have distinguished themselves by winning national design competitions and securing prestigious internships and employment opportunities with organizations such as NASA, Lockheed Martin, Intel, Apple, and leading defense contractors. UDC's prime location-within 30 miles of the Naval Research Laboratory, Army Research Laboratory, National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), National Institutes of Health (NIH), NASA, and numerous government and private-sector technology organizations-offers rich opportunities for collaboration and career advancement.
The Department of Computer Science and Information Technology at SEAS invites applications for a non-tenure-track Visiting Associate Professor position, with a dedicated focus on cybersecurity.
We are seeking candidates with expertise in cybersecurity and privacy, and a strong commitment to excellence in teaching, research, and student mentoring. The ideal candidate will contribute to the department's growing cybersecurity program and research portfolio and support institutional efforts to achieve NSA/DHS National Center of Academic Excellence in Cybersecurity designation and ABET accreditation. A demonstrated commitment to diversity, collaboration, and service is essential.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in computer science and related disciplines.
- Conduct high-quality cybersecurity research and actively collaborate with established departmental research teams.
- Contribute to the development and execution of externally funded research projects.
- Participate in academic advising, curriculum development, departmental governance, and university service.
- Support efforts to attain and maintain NSA/DHS National Center of Academic Excellence in Cybersecurity designation and ABET accreditation.
- Engage in professional service and community outreach activities aligned with the department's mission.
Minimum Job Requirements
- Candidates must have a doctoral degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related disciplines with a focus on Cybersecurity. Interested candidates should submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae (with listing academic publications), research statement, teaching statement, and a statement of commitment to advancing equity and fostering an inclusive and diverse community in academia.
A candidate for appointment to the rank of Associate Professor shall be required to meet the following qualifications:
- An earned doctorate or the highest appropriate credential in the field of specialization, or experience and achievements comparable to the doctorate
- A record of scholarship and professional growth
- At least five (5) years of full-time teaching experience in an institution of higher education, including three (3) years as an Assistant Professor. (Community college experience preferred).Appropriate professional experience and achievements may be substituted when formal teaching experience is limited or absent.
A candidate for appointment to the rank of Assistant Professor shall be required to meet the following qualifications:
- An appropriate terminal degree or agree to complete this degree within a period of time to be specified in the terms of the initial contract
- At least three (3) years of full-time teaching experience, including two (2) years in an institution of higher education.
- Appropriate professional experience and achievements may be substituted when formal teaching experience is limited or absent. When formal teaching experience is limited or absent, the candidate shall be required to demonstrate verifiable potential for effective teaching.
Collective Bargaining Unit (Union): This position is in the collective bargaining unit represented by National Education Association (NEA) and you may be required to pay an agency service fee through direct payroll deduction.

An applicant selected for an appointment based on District residency will be required to submit no less than eight (8) proofs of bona fide District residency. Bona fide District residency must be maintained from the date of appointment to the position for seven (7) consecutive years. Failure to maintain bona fide District residency for the (7) year period will result in forfeiture of employment.
Drug-Free Workplace: Pursuant to the requirements of the Drug-Free Workplace Act of 1988, the individual selected to fill this position will, as a condition of employment, be required to notify his/her immediate supervisor, in writing, not later than five (5) days after conviction of any criminal drug statute occurring in the workplace.
Background Investigation: Employment with the University of the District of Columbia is contingent upon a satisfactory background investigation. The determination of a "satisfactory background investigation" is made at the sole discretion of the University of the District of Columbia. The University may refuse to hire a finalist, rescind an offer of employment to a finalist or review and terminate the employment of a current employee based on the results of a background investigation.
