The Associate Data Science Analyst and Data Analyst roles share similarities in educational background and industry usage. Both roles serve as entry points into data careers but differ in technical depth and collaboration scope.

What types of projects and datasets do Associate Data Science Analysts typically work with, and how do they contribute to larger team goals?

Associate Data Science Analysts often work on projects involving data cleaning, exploratory analysis, and basic model development using real-world datasets such as sales figures, customer behavior logs, or operational metrics. Their primary responsibility is to prepare, analyze, and visualize data to uncover insights that support business decisions. They collaborate closely with more senior data scientists, business analysts, and stakeholders to ensure that their analyses align with organizational objectives. This role provides valuable exposure to the end-to-end data science workflow and lays the foundation for advancement into more specialized or senior data science positions.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Associate Data Science Analyst, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Associate Data Science Analyst, you need a solid grounding in statistics, data analysis, and programming languages such as Python or R, typically supported by a degree in a quantitative field. Familiarity with data visualization tools like Tableau, SQL databases, and potentially foundational certifications in data analytics are commonly required. Strong problem-solving, critical thinking, and effective communication skills help analysts interpret data insights and convey findings to stakeholders. These competencies are crucial for transforming raw data into actionable business intelligence and supporting data-driven decision-making.

What does an Associate Data Science Analyst do?

An Associate Data Science Analyst is an entry-level professional who assists in collecting, analyzing, and interpreting data to help organizations make data-driven decisions. They work closely with senior data scientists and analysts, using statistical tools and programming languages like Python or R to process data, create reports, and visualize results. Their responsibilities often include cleaning and organizing data sets, performing exploratory data analysis, and supporting the development of predictive models. This role is a great way to gain hands-on experience in data science while building foundational skills for more advanced positions.

Job description

WE'RE HIRING! If you love data and are looking for unlimited growth opportunities, we want to talk with you about joining Further.

Further is a data, cloud, and AI company whose focus is helping companies turn raw data into the right decisions. We have an award winning culture of extraordinary people. Our purpose is to enable people to thrive so that businesses can thrive. We believe that the work you do should matter - it should be meaningful to you professionally and personally, and it should have a positive impact on both you and our clients. If this sounds exciting to you, let's chat!

We are looking for a Data Science Analyst who can not just report on performance, but also interpret data to drive decision-making to ensure our clients turn raw data into measurable business value.

What you bring:

  • 2–5 years of professional experience in data science or advanced marketing analytics. We value a background that combines marketing domain expertise with technical data science rigor.
  • Strong command of R and/or Python for data manipulation and statistical analysis.
  • Deep understanding of statistical theory, including hypothesis testing, regression analysis, and experimental design. Familiarity with causal inference methods is a significant plus.
  • Ability to manage client expectations, present to non-technical audiences, and pivot quickly based on evolving business needs.
  • Bonus Points: Proficiency in SQL is preferred for querying data across various cloud warehouses (BigQuery, Snowflake, etc.).
  • Bonus Points: Exceptional "data-to-story" skills—the ability to explain the "so what" behind a coefficient or a p-value.
  • Bonus Points: Adobe Analytics

What you'll be doing:

  • Support discovery work to understand client challenges and develop a structured backlog of evidence-based hypotheses for testing and analysis.
  • Assist in designing and executing reporting, analytics, and optimization briefs.
  • Partner closely with engineers to ensure data accuracy and data pipelines are quality-checked before being leveraged for reporting, analysis or modeling.
  • Perform analysis to uncover actionable insights and develop data-driven recommendations
  • Present findings to internal and client stakeholders in a clear, business-focused way.

What you'll need to accomplish in your first year:

  • Contribute consistently to the experimentation backlog through research, structured hypothesis development, and KPI alignment.
  • Deliver clear, actionable insights from analysis and test results that help clients make confident, data-driven decisions.

Our total rewards program is designed for your protection, peace of mind, and overall well-being. In addition to our outstanding basics, we offer a net-zero cost medical option, company contributions to your HSA, fertility support, fully-paid parental leave, a monthly stipend for your lifestyle spending account, and much more.
