Job description

Description Under the daily direction of the Network Administrator, this role provides user support, technical assistance, and limited training on the use of computer systems and software applications. Responsibilities include installing, upgrading, and troubleshooting network and workstation operating systems. Essential Duties and Responsibilities User Support and Diagnostics Responds to user requests for technical assistance with computer or network issues.

Diagnoses and resolves hardware failures, escalating complex issues as necessary. Assists users of varying technical proficiency with the installation and operation of software, including word processors, spreadsheets, and communication tools. Installs, upgrades, and troubleshoots City-owned personal computers, printers, and related peripherals (e.g., scanners, receipt printers, communication systems)

Tasks may include replacing disk drives, upgrading hardware, and ensuring software compatibility. Manages user accounts and client access, ensuring system security and proper authorization. Performs workstation and network hardware/software upgrades as needed.

Monitoring and Troubleshooting Assists with configuring, troubleshooting, and upgrading telecommunication hardware and software. Assists in monitoring system performance, usage, and security, identifying potential issues, and running routine diagnostics. Enforces City software licensing policies and other IT security procedures.

Maintenance and Repair Conducts on-site repairs and provides replacement equipment when necessary. Performs routine data backups and file restoration in accordance with established policies and procedures. Minimum Qualifications Education and Experience Associate or bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field; AND At least two (2) years of progressively responsible IT experience; OR An equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the necessary skills and qualifications may be considered.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of: Installation, configuration, and troubleshooting of network and workstation operating systems. Modern tools and techniques for managing personal computers in a network environment. Common computer operating systems and software.
