Job description

Leads the engineering development of key projects utilizing product development processes to develop products and processes, leads projects and/or product launch teams, and provides technical support for existing products.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Position Summary: Project Engineer Application Hastings, MI

  • Plans, organizes, and leads engineering projects through product development processes.
  • Prepares and adheres to project schedules, raises issues to meet project deadlines, and takes necessary steps to resolve them.
  • Analyzes research data, proposed product specifications, and/or customer drawings to determine feasibility of product proposals.
  • Uses computer-assisted engineering and design software and equipment to perform engineering and design tasks.
  • Advanced Manufacturing, Operations, Purchasing, and suppliers to develop designs and resolve design issues.
  • Prepares or coordinates the preparation of product or system layouts, detailed drawings, schematics, and all engineering documentation.
  • Prepares cost quotations on new products, including materials and purchased components, labor and burden, tooling, and testing.
  • Coordinates the manufacturing or building of prototype samples, tooling, or systems.
  • Plans and develop experimental test programs utilizing the appropriate quality tools.
  • Analyzes test data and reports to determine if designs meet functional and performance specifications.
  • Engages with Manufacturing, Marketing, Engineering, and other personnel to prepare product design modifications as required.
  • Controls project expenditures within project budget limitations.
  • Prepares interim and project completion update reports.
  • Evaluates and approves design changes, specification changes, and drawing releases.
  • Provides technical support for existing products.
  • Supports other engineers and engineering technicians, as required, through the product launch process, including new part quotes, new part setup, and prototype builds while adhering to the appropriate product development tools (APQP, Control Plans, DFMEA, PFMEA, etc.).
  • Process’s new part orders, including designing, sourcing and testing of parts.
  • Troubleshoots product and process problems and lends other technical degree or related/proven work experience.

  • Reduce recurring product and process issues through root cause analysis and corrective actions.

  • Improves material, tooling, or manufacturing efficiencies through engineering solutions
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, related technical degree, or equivalent proven work experience.
  • Three to five years of experience in product or process development. Automotive industry experience preferred.
  • Experience in multiple functional areas preferred.
  • Demonstrated success leading projects from concept through successful launch or implementation.
  • Demonstrated technical expertise in the relevant area of responsibility or technology.
  • Understanding of APQP preferred.
  • Basic CAD skills (SolidWorks preferred).
