WHY MOUNT DORA? YOU WILL WANT TO STAY FOREVER.

Mount Dora is not your average Florida city. Tucked into the rolling hills of Lake County, just 30 miles northwest of Orlando, it is widely regarded as one of the most charming and livable small towns in the entire state. Here is what makes it special:

A True Small-Town Feel With Big-City Proximity
Mount Dora has a population of just over 17,000, which means you will actually know your neighbors, your favorite restaurant staff, and the people you serve at work. Yet Orlando's full range of international airports, professional sports, dining, and entertainment is less than an hour away. It is the best of both worlds.

The Great Outdoors, Right Outside Your Door
Mount Dora sits on the shores of Lake Dora, a sprawling 4,000-plus-acre lake that is part of the Harris Chain of Lakes. Whether you enjoy bass fishing, kayaking, paddleboarding, or simply watching the sun set from a lakeside dock, the water is always calling. The scenic Dora Canal is a favorite for paddlers and eco-tour enthusiasts alike, offering a canopied, mile-long waterway teeming with Florida wildlife. If hiking and biking are more your speed, Lake County's lush green forests and trails are just minutes away, and Alexander Springs -- with crystal-clear, 72-degree freshwater springs perfect for swimming and snorkeling -- is about 40 minutes from downtown.

Festival City, USA
Mount Dora has earned its nickname. The city hosts more than 30 festivals a year, from the nationally recognized Mount Dora Arts Festival and the Spring Festival of Arts and Crafts to the beloved Blueberry Festival, Seafood Festival, and Renninger's Antique Extravaganza -- one of the largest antique markets in the Southeast, with over 800 dealers on 117 rolling acres. There is always something happening, and community life here is genuinely vibrant.

A Dining and Arts Scene That Punches Above Its Weight
Downtown Mount Dora's historic, walkable streets are lined with independent restaurants, galleries, boutique shops, and coffee houses. Dinner at The Goblin Market or 1921 Mount Dora -- located inside the stunning Modernism Museum -- offers the kind of dining experience you would expect in a much larger city. Sunday mornings at the Village Market, with fresh produce, local vendors, and live music, have a way of making you feel right at home.

Rich History and Genuine Character
Mount Dora has been welcoming residents and visitors since the 1880s. The Lakeside Inn, which opened in 1883 and is the oldest continuously operating hotel in Florida, still anchors the downtown waterfront. Historic architecture, cobblestone streets, a one-of-a-kind inland lighthouse, and a genuine sense of community pride give this town a character that is increasingly rare to find.

A Smart Financial Move
Florida charges zero state income tax, which is an immediate and meaningful difference in your take-home pay compared to most other states. Mount Dora's overall cost of living is right at the national average, with housing costs that are significantly more affordable than comparable cities in the greater Orlando metro area. You get quality of life without sacrificing financial quality.

Above-Average Schools and a Safe Community
Mount Dora is consistently rated as one of the best places to live in Florida, with above-average public schools, a low crime rate, and a strong sense of neighborliness that is hard to manufacture and harder to leave.
