Associate counselors are mental health professionals who have completed the necessary education, such as a master's degree in counseling or a related field, and are working under supervision to gain clinical experience required for full licensure. They provide counseling services to clients dealing with a range of emotional, behavioral, or mental health issues. Associate counselors often work in schools, clinics, private practices, or community organizations, and their work is supervised by a licensed counselor. Their primary goal is to help clients develop coping strategies, improve mental well-being, and achieve personal growth while they work toward independent licensure.

What skills and qualifications are needed to be an associate counselor?

To thrive as an Associate Counselor, you typically need a master's degree in counseling or a related field and state licensure or certification. Familiarity with case management systems, counseling software, and evidence-based therapeutic modalities is important. Strong interpersonal skills, empathy, active listening, and cultural sensitivity help you connect with and support clients effectively. These skills and qualifications are crucial for building trust, ensuring ethical practice, and delivering impactful mental health care.

Additionally, self-care and maintaining a balanced workload are important practices to sustain effectiveness and prevent burnout.

This role offers the flexibility of conducting both telehealth and face-to-face counseling sessions, primarily serving clients in Laredo, Texas. As a Licensed Professional Counselor, you will play a crucial role in helping individuals navigate their mental health challenges, especially those related to trauma recovery.

About the Organization

At Divine & Associates, we are a clinician-founded private practice committed to our mission of promoting happiness and success in the lives of our clients. We prioritize accessibility, integrity, and quality care in all our actions. By fostering a supportive environment for both clients and clinicians, we create a meaningful space for personal and professional growth. Our team is dedicated to making a positive impact in the community through effective and empathetic mental health services.

Work Environment

This is a remote position that leverages telehealth technology to deliver high-quality mental health care to clients, ensuring that geographical barriers do not hinder access to essential services. Our flexible working hours accommodate a variety of schedules, as we are open seven days a week from 7 am to 10 pm. The role requires you to balance independent work with collaborative teamwork, ensuring that both the clinician's autonomy and patient care quality are optimized.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct comprehensive trauma-informed mental health assessments to identify patients' individual needs and histories.
  • Develop and implement tailored treatment plans that prioritize trauma recovery and resilience-building.
  • Utilize evidence-based therapeutic interventions, such as Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Trauma-Focused Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), to facilitate healing.
  • Deliver both individual and group therapy sessions, creating a safe space for clients to process trauma and acquire coping strategies.
  • Collaborate with psychiatrists and other healthcare professionals to coordinate comprehensive care for clients.
  • Provide crisis intervention and support for clients experiencing trauma-related emergencies.
  • Educate patients and their families about trauma responses and effective coping mechanisms while providing resource information.
  • Maintain accurate, confidential documentation that adheres to legal and ethical standards.
  • Engage in regular case consultations, team meetings, and continuous professional development focused on trauma-informed care and interventions.
Patient Population / Client Focus

In this role, you will primarily serve a diverse patient population facing various challenges related to trauma, mental health disorders, and emotional resilience. Our clients range from children to adults, and your work will be instrumental in facilitating their healing journeys and enabling them to lead fulfilling lives.

Qualifications
  • A master's or doctoral degree in Mental Health Counseling from an accredited institution is required.
  • Current and valid licensure as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the state of Texas.
  • Demonstrated expertise in trauma-related disorders and trauma-informed treatment approaches.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, coupled with a compassionate and non-judgmental demeanor.
Preferred Experience
  • A minimum of two years of post-licensure experience is preferred.
  • Experience in delivering trauma-focused therapies and interventions, with a particular emphasis on EMDR and TF-CBT.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team while maintaining a calm presence in high-stress situations.
  • Proficient in electronic health record (EHR) systems and comfort with various computer applications.
Compensation and Benefits

The offered salary for this position ranges from USD 70,000 to 110,000 annually, commensurate with experience and qualifications. We provide a comprehensive benefits package that includes:

  • A guaranteed salary with annual increases and opportunities for performance bonuses.
  • Paid orientation, monthly professional development sessions, and paid time off (PTO).
  • Flexible scheduling options to support work-life balance.
  • Health and dental insurance, along with options for disability and life insurance.
  • A W2 model of employment with a 401(k) plan featuring a 3% employer match.
  • CEU reimbursement to support ongoing education and professional growth.
Career Growth Opportunities

Divine & Associates is committed to the professional development of its team members. You will have access to tailored training programs, mentorship opportunities, and case consultation groups that promote both personal growth and skill enhancement in trauma-informed care.

Why Join Our Team
