Senior CAD Designer
Newport News, VA; Virginia Beach, VA; Jacksonville, FL; Hampstead, NC - Regular Full-Time

We are seeking a talented and motivated Senior CAD Designer to join our consulting team. As a Senior CAD Designer, you will play a key role in our water and environmental project teams, translating engineering concepts into construction-ready drawings. You'll work closely with engineers and project managers across a diverse portfolio of water, wastewater, stormwater, and stream restoration projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare complete drawing packages including site plans, plan-and-profile sheets, civil details, and construction documents for water/wastewater infrastructure, stormwater collection systems, and stream restoration projects.
  • Develop and maintain project-specific CAD standards in alignment with company and client requirements.
  • Coordinate with project engineers to translate design intent into accurate, constructible drawings - identifying and flagging conflicts, gaps, or errors early in the design process.
  • Manage CAD file organization, version control, and project folder structures to support multi-disciplinary project teams.
  • Integrate survey data, GIS datasets, and aerial imagery into Civil 3D model environments to support surface, corridor, and grading designs.
  • Produce 3D models and renderings where required for client presentations or multi-discipline coordination.
  • Review and QA/QC drawings produced by junior designers and drafters, providing mentorship and redline feedback.
  • Support field verification activities, site visits, and construction administration tasks as required - including occasional long-distance travel to project sites.
  • Collaborate with GIS specialists to support spatial data integration, mapping deliverables, and record drawing updates.
  • Assist with proposal preparation by developing concept figures, exhibit sheets, and site diagrams.
  • All other duties as required.
About You
  • Completion of a CAD Design certificate program, technical diploma, or Associate Degree in a related discipline.
  • 10+ years of CAD design experience in a civil engineering or environmental consulting.
  • Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D (10+ years required); current software version experience essential.
  • Solid understanding of civil engineering design principles, including grading, utility layout, stormwater conveyance, and site geometry.
  • Experience with GIS software (Esri ArcGIS, ArcGIS Pro) for spatial data integration and mapping.
  • Familiarity with environmental and water resources project types: stream restoration, wetland grading, stormwater BMPs, and pump stations.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, projects, and deadlines effectively.
$90,000 - $110,000 a year
