THE ROLE
Vesalius Therapeutics is seeking an Associate Director, AI Enablement & Machine Learning to help drive the adoption and application of AI, machine learning, and scientific computing across the discovery organization. This individual will partner closely with Biology, Data Science, and Research teams to identify opportunities where AI can accelerate scientific discovery, improve decision-making, and enhance research productivity. This is a highly collaborative, hands‑on role that combines technical expertise with scientific curiosity and the ability to translate complex research challenges into practical computational solutions.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop and deploy AI/ML solutions that support target discovery, translational research, biomarker identification, and scientific decision‑making.
- Partner with scientists and cross‑functional teams to identify high‑impact opportunities for AI and advanced analytics.
- Apply modern machine learning techniques, including predictive modelling, deep learning, generative AI, and large language models.
- Build and maintain analytical workflows for complex biological and multimodal datasets.
- Collaborate with Data Science and Engineering teams to deploy scalable tools and computational workflows.
- Promote best practices in reproducibility, model validation, data governance, and AI adoption.
- Mentor colleagues and help increase AI literacy and computational capabilities across the organization.
- Stay current on emerging technologies and recommend practical applications that create scientific value.
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS
- Ph.D. or Master's degree in Machine Learning, Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Data Science, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Approximately 5-8 years of relevant experience (may include post‑doc) applying AI, machine learning, or computational methods in biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, healthcare, or life sciences.
- Strong programming skills in Python and experience with modern machine learning frameworks.
- Experience working with biological, biomedical, or other complex scientific datasets.
- Knowledge of cloud computing environments and scalable computational workflows.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate across scientific and technical disciplines.
PREFERRED
Experience supporting drug discovery, genomics, proteomics, biomarker development, generative AI, large language models, knowledge management systems, or AI‑enabled research platforms.
