Tier 3 Computer Technician / Assistant Systems Administrator
Department: Technology Department
Reports To: IT Director / Systems Administrator
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Tier 3 Technician/Assistant Systems Administrator provides advanced troubleshooting and technical support, serving as the escalation point for Tier 1 & 2 support teams. This role combines hands-on Dell-certified hardware repair with senior-level administration of Microsoft 365, Active Directory, Azure/Entra ID, and MDM systems (SCCM/KACE/Meraki). This position ensures high availability of instructional technology, supports 1:1 initiatives, and assists with backend server/network maintenance.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Tier 3 Technical Support & Hardware Maintenance
  • Serve as the primary escalation point for complex hardware/software issues that cannot be resolved by Tier 1/2 technicians.
  • Act as a Dell Certified Technician to diagnose, repair, and maintain school-owned Dell laptops, desktops, and workstations.
  • Perform component-level repairs (screens, motherboards, batteries) for Windows and Chrome devices.
  • Maintain, configure, and troubleshoot AV equipment, interactive displays, and peripherals.

System Administration (Cloud & On-Premise)
  • AD Administration: Manage user accounts, security groups, and Group Policies (GPO) in Active Directory.
  • Azure/Entra ID: Manage cloud identity, user provisioning, and device registration.
  • MS 365: Administer Microsoft 365 tenants, including Exchange Online, SharePoint, and Teams security.
  • Google Admin Console: Manage organizational units (OUs), device policies, and apps for Chromebooks.

Endpoint Management & Imaging (SCCM, KACE, Intune, Meraki SM)
  • Manage device deployment, patching, and imaging using SCCM/MDT or KACE.
  • Administer Microsoft Intune for modern endpoint management, configuration profiles, and compliance policies.
  • Utilize Meraki Systems Manager (SM) for mobile device management (MDM) of iPads/iPhones.
  • Lead "Summer Refresh" cycles, including re-imaging hundreds of devices and deploying new technology.

Security, Software, and Educational Portals
  • Implement and manage CORO or similar cybersecurity solutions for endpoint protection.
  • Configure, maintain, and troubleshoot access to various educational portals and testing applications.
  • Ensure all devices are secure and up-to-date with current security patches.

Documentation and Process Optimization
  • Create and maintain detailed documentation of technical procedures, network diagrams, and knowledge base articles.
  • Provide mentorship and training to Tier 1 and Tier 2 technicians.
  • Ensure accurate asset management and inventory tracking.

Required Qualifications
  • Education: Associates' in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience: 2+ years of experience in IT support, (Preferably In Sussex County Public Schools)
  • Certifications: Active Dell Certified Systems Expert (DCSE) or similar Dell hardware certification.
  • Technical Skills: Deep knowledge of Windows 10/11, Chrome OS, Active Directory, Microsoft 365, SCCM/Intune, and Meraki.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Microsoft Certified: Endpoint Administrator Associate (Intune/SCCM).
  • Google Certified Educator or Administrator.
  • Experience with PowerShell scripting for automation.
  • Network+ or Security+ certification.

Physical Requirements
  • Must be able to lift, push, and pull at least 50 lbs (computers, printers, etc.).
  • Must be able to work in cramped spaces (under desks, in server closets).
