Job description

CAD Designer (Commercial Modular Construction)

Russo Modular is a commercial modular building manufacturer specializing in steel-framed modular construction. We are seeking a detail-oriented CAD Designer to work closely with our Construction Manager to support modular design, fabrication, and daily manufacturing operations at our facility.
This role is critical in translating construction intent into clear drawings and daily work tickets that guide production teams through each phase of the modular manufacturing process.

Job Responsibilities

  • Work directly with the Construction Manager to develop and revise modular building drawings.
  • Produce detailed CAD drawings for structural steel, framing, sheet metal, and modular components.
  • Prepare shop drawings and fabrication-ready files for manufacturing.
  • Create accurate shop drawings from field measurements, site dimensions, sketches, and as-built conditions.
  • Develop cut lists for steel stud framing and other fabricated metal components to support efficient shop production.
  • Prepare material takeoffs for structural steel, metal framing, and related fabrication materials.
  • Produce custom fabrication and shop drawings for unique project requirements when standard details are not available.
  • Create daily work tickets for manufacturing teams that clearly outline tasks to be performed.
  • Attach and organize relevant drawings, details, and sketches for daily production activities.
  • Generate CNC and laser-cut files as required.
  • Coordinate designs with fabrication, manufacturing, and installation teams.
  • Revise drawings based on production feedback, field conditions, and project requirements.
  • Maintain organized drawing sets, work tickets, and revision control.
  • Review drawings for constructability and identify opportunities to improve manufacturability, reduce material waste, and increase production efficiency before fabrication begins.
  • Ensure drawings and work instructions meet project specifications, codes, and company standards.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience as a CAD Designer in construction or manufacturing.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and Fusion 360 (required).
  • Experience with Microsoft Excel (required).
  • Experience with Advanced Steel (preferred).
  • Experience preparing files for laser cutting systems.
  • Experience with Trumpf Laser or Bodor Laser systems preferred.
  • Experience creating fabrication shop drawings from architectural drawings, field measurements, and site conditions.
  • Experience preparing cut lists for metal stud framing and fabricated steel components.
  • Ability to perform accurate material takeoffs for steel framing, structural steel, and related construction materials.
  • Understanding of steel fabrication, sheet metal, or modular construction processes.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction documents and specifications.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with production teams and management.

What We Offer

  • Competitive pay based on experience
  • Full-time, steady, year-round employment
  • Benefits package including health insurance, paid time off, and holidays
  • Hands-on role with direct impact on manufacturing efficiency
  • Opportunity to grow with a rapidly expanding modular construction company
